The Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies (LA&PS) is the largest Faculty at York University with over 27,000 undergraduate and graduate students, and almost 100 programs delivered through 25 Departments, Schools and Colleges, plus the IBM Markham Learning Site. Under the direction of the Director, Strategic Communications & Marketing, the Graphic Designer supports the communications and enrolment objectives of the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies (LA&PS) by creating print and digital marketing materials including brochures, postcards, posters, webpages, graphics and email templates intended to showcase LA&PS's programs, projects and people to internal and external audiences. This position also supports the advancement of LA&PS's marketing outreach including developing and maintaining website content, direct email marketing, social media outreach and advertising. The Graphic Designer will also support the objectives of the Faculty through photography and video production, as necessary. The objective of the incumbent's work is to positively impact student recruitment and enhance LA&PS's reputation. The Graphic Designer will support the vision, mission, values and strategic direction of the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies and York University, and contribute to a positive, supportive and student-focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration and continuous improvement. College level diploma in Graphic Design, or an equivalent of two (2) years recent experience (defined as within the last three years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.
Minimum three (3) years relevant experience in, designing a variety of printed and online marketing and communication products, capturing and editing video and photography. Experience in a postsecondary environment an asset.
Ability to bring conceptual skills, a creative thinking and strong design abilities to all projects. Ability to take creative initiative when given a rough concept. Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and handle multiple assignments simultaneously. Ability to coordinate, create and deliver collateral/assets from concept to distribution/publication. Demonstrated skills in sourcing, creating and optimizing appropriate and engaging content for a variety of digital platforms including advertising. Ability to develop related communities and networks. Familiarity with AODA regulations. Intermediate technical skills utilizing Adobe Creative Software including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Flash, and Final Cut Pro. MAC OS, Microsoft Office Suite including Word (Intermediate), Excel (Introductory) and Powerpoint (Introductory). Excellent analytical, interpretive and conceptual skills.
