Assistant Executive Director: Administrative Services & Fund Development
Work Locations: Halifax and Dartmouth
Hours: 35 hours per week (plus some on-call time)
START DATE: February 2019
ANNUAL SALARY: $45,000 to $60,000 depending on experience.
This is a 9 Month Term Position with possible conversion to an ongoing leadership position.
With over 30 years of operation, Welcome Housing and Support Services is a highly respected non-profit providing affordable housing and related services for low-income individuals who are homeless or experiencing housing insecurity. We have a new name, a new strategic plan and a clear vision for our contribution to the development of thriving neighbourhoods and communities by providing affordable housing for those most in need.
Reporting to the Executive Director, you will work with our staff, our tenants and clients, volunteers and the Board of Directors to:
assume day-to-day oversight of the operational aspects of the organization, including financial (banking, budgeting, reporting to funders and government agencies and payroll remittances), property management (building maintenance and tenant relations).
assist the Executive Director in developing and implementing concrete objectives for the Strategic Plan.
work with volunteers and the Board of Directors to develop a fund development plan and oversee fund raising activities.
We're looking for someone:
with university or college credentials in Non-Profit Leadership, Business, Public Administration, Social Services or other related fields of study; or demonstrated equivalent experience of ten years or more;
who is deeply committed to the principles of social justice;
with experience and expertise in financial, property and project management, fund development, and fund raising in a volunteer organization.
with solid working knowledge of federal and provincial legislation applicable to voluntary sector organizations (including: employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, charities, taxation, CPP, EI, health coverage, etc.)
who is an effective communicator with excellent listening, speaking and writing skills that serve to enhance essential relationships with tenants and clients, volunteers, staff, the Board of Directors, funders, community agencies and the general public,
who understands current community challenges and opportunities relating to our mission,
with at least five years of experience in a non-profit organization providing social services or community supports,
who understands and practices ethical behaviour and business practices and is a role model for others in the organization,
