Digital Communications Specialist At Vancouver Coastal Health

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Manager, Digital Communications, the Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing digital communications plans to assist the health authority in meeting its strategic goals of providing exceptional and convenient health care, making Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) a great place to work, and innovating for impact.

You will work in collaboration with other communications and health care professionals to ensure effective online communications through a variety of digital marketing, web, and social media platforms. Areas of responsibility may include, but are not limited to: VCH’s CMS (content management systems), social media (organic & paid,) community engagement, copywriting, email marketing, digital project management, social content curation & creation, UX (user experience) research & design, SEO (search engine optimization), and analytics & reporting.

The Digital Communications Specialist will also provide mentorship to the Digital Communications Coordinator, and other designated staff as applicable, while acting as the in-house digital communications expert on behalf of the department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and/or Communications, and three (3) to five (5) years’ recent, related experience in Marketing and/or Communications, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience and general competency in current digital marketing technologies and strategies.
  • Social media and Hootsuite experience and fluency.
  • Excellent writing abilities.
  • Experience leading and managing large digital projects preferred.
  • Experience overseeing a multifaceted social media presence preferred.
  • Graphic design, photography, and videography abilities preferred.
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge and proficiency in current and relevant online communication technologies and social media strategies.
  • Advanced expertise in social media management and advertising.
  • Advanced expertise in copywriting.
  • Advanced expertise with content management systems, including WordPress and Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Advanced expertise with the MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Advanced expertise in relevant marketing software and products including: Hootsuite, Google Analytics, Google Ads, Facebook Ads Manager, MailChimp, and others.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to all stakeholders and clients.
  • Exceptional organizational, project management and time management skills, including the ability to work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals and teams in a wide variety of settings across the organization, applying interpersonal skills and taking a problem-solving approach.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work and balance multiple activities concurrently, and in a manner that optimizes departmental effectiveness and contributes to organizational success.
  • Ability to analyze marketing data in order to facilitate effective decision making and problem solving.
  • Exercises considerable judgment, tact and discretion in preparing, disclosing and handling information of a confidential and/or sensitive nature.
  • Acts with a high degree of ethical and professional behaviour.
