Hardware Product Manager / Engineer At Twitter

Location: San Francisco, California

Job Description

The Hardware Product Manager / Engineer provides design expertise and leadership to programs in the areas of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Testability (DFT), Design to Unit Production Cost (DTUPC), and Transition to Production (TTP). The Hardware Product Manager / Engineer will report to the Senior Manager – Hardware Engineering, within the Platform Engineering Organization.


In this role, the Hardware Product Manager / Engineer serves as the program's lead and focal point and is charged with providing technical leadership, support, and direction for new product designs/features in collaboration with our partners in SRE/Platform Engineering teams. The Product Manager also oversees successful platform transition into Operations from Engineering. Focusing on understanding customer/business needs and producibility activities early in the design process, the Hardware Product Manager will help drive technology trends into our supplier’s factories to maximize design flexibility, increase manufacturing capability, and lower production costs. Core responsibilities include:


  • The Hardware Product Manager / Engineer is a "Design for Excellence" (DFX) practitioner versed in DFM, DFT, DTUPC and Transition to Production (TTP) methods, tools, and best practices
  • Serves as the Program's Lead / focal point and coordinates all necessary program staffing needs to include NPI Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from Platform/Business, Supply Engineering, Hardware Quality
  • Responsible Engineer for providing NPI (New Product Introduction) design expertise on hardware products including participation in all internal design reviews and architecture review boards
  • Drives the product life cycle development process for test plans, reports and exit criteria including EVT (Engineering Validation Test), DVT (Design Validation Tests), PVT (Production Validation Tests), SVT (Software Validation Tests) and MP (Mass Production) stages.
  • Provides program expertise in the areas of Manufacturing Readiness Assessments (MRAs) as well as Production Readiness Reviews (PRRs)
  • Responsible for following the Systems, Hardware, and standard Engineering processes. Promotes the use of design guidelines during product development
  • Serves as a conduit to necessary Operations staffing to include Advanced Manufacturing, Process/Test Engineering, and Product Engineering. Also provides technical support for rapid prototyping
  • Ensures preferred part and supplier selection alignment with supply chain strategy.
  • Utilizes Design to Cost (DTC) based on a Price-to-Win as a methodology to drive designs to converge on cost instead of allowing cost to converge on design
  • Understands design margins and predict factory and supplier yields through CpK analysis
  • Participates in proposal and cost estimating activities related to NPI activities and broader supply chain/Hardware Engineering areas

Minimum Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience, preferred Masters


Required Skills And Education

  • Background in product development, DFM, DFT, New Product Introduction (NPI), ramp to rate manufacturing, manufacturing process, and manufacturing readiness
  • Practical understanding of product development and the Hi-tech product development lifecycle
  • Strong background in engineering and manufacturing principles
