Staff Accountant
Accounting Section
Phoenix Location
Salary Range: $45,000 - $55,000

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Daily draw down of federal monies from various payment systems, including review of cash on hand to determine if balances are obligated or available for use
  • Provide support, as assigned by the Accounting Director, to all accounting units
  • Consult with other Business and Finance units, ADE employees, program areas, and local educational agencies for inquiries and/or to resolve issues, reporting requirements, and project status of state and federal awards
  • Review, reconcile, analyze, and compile information from reports
  • Make entries and revisions to the general ledger to ensure proper matching of state and federal revenues and expenditures
  • Evaluate ADE accounting practices, update procedures, and compile mandatory financial review documents
  • Review state and federal policies for compliance and updates
  • Reach out to various program areas for reporting needs
  • Local travel is required for this position

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field and/or equivalent experience in accounting
  • Methods and techniques of automated accounting systems and data processing as it relates to accounting practices
  • Judgment in realizing when funds are depleted and taking initiative to request funds
  • Rules and regulations established for the work system of an agency

SKILLS:

  • Analysis, interpretation, and reconciling of financial data
  • Work techniques required to maintain accounting records through automated accounting systems
  • Oral and written communication
  • Work organization and accomplishment
  • Applying accounting principles and practices
  • Excellent customer service
  • Intermediate skill in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Basic skills in using Microsoft Access

ABILITIES:

  • Read and understand federal regulations, Arizona Revised Statutes, applicable agency manuals, and policies and procedures
  • Effectively manage time
  • Detail-oriented
