Seaspan Corporation (NYSE:SSW) is the world’s largest financial lessor in the containership leasing space with an $8bn+ balance sheet. Seaspan provides many of the world’s major shipping lines with alternatives to vessel ownership by offering long-term leases on large, modern containerships combined with industry leading ship management services.


Seaspan’s fleet has evolved over time to meet the varying needs of their customer base. We own vessels in a wide range of sizes, from 2,500 TEU ships to the recently delivered 14,000 TEU vessels. Seaspan oversees and manages every aspect of the process from ship to shore. Position Description:

Provide business consulting to enterprise wide user community to help identify user needs, process improvement opportunities, and opportunities to leverage technology. The Business Analyst is the primary liaison between the business stakeholders and the technical teams to ensure Enterprise systems are providing the functionality and operational efficiencies as expected. This role requires a seasoned Business Analyst with extensive years of experience and will elicit requirements from business stakeholders, analyzes the requirements, recommends transformed business processes, documents input and outputs in the appropriate form, creates functional specifications, prepares detailed business cases, and guides the development and testing team to ensure delivered solutions have met the requirements specified. Activities includes requirements gathering, process analysis, in depth documentation of as-is processes and costs, design of to–be processes costs, preparation gap analysis and feasibility studies, preparation of detailed functional and technical design documentation, contributing to solution configuration, preparation and execution of test plans and provides post implementation sustainment support. This role will build strong client and vendor relationships within the business areas and works with vendors and stakeholders to ensure that business process are efficient and technical solutions meet the required specifications, quality and delivery schedule. This role participates in the evaluation of new applications and systems and will provide guidance to internal and external resources to resolve operational issues.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides business consulting, at senior level, to internal customers and lead business requirements gathering meetings and workshops. This includes capturing business needs and analyzing these needs to identify and document functional, non-functional and technical requirements, at a detailed level.

  • Primary liaison between the business stakeholders and the technical teams. Fosters open communications and manages client expectations. Works closely with the IT and internal Business Partners to satisfy all business requirements. Effectively communicate complex information to a non-technical audience including presentations to functional business groups and end users and work with various stakeholders and IT steering committees.

  • Participates in cross-functional teams to identify, define, validate and document the processes and business rules, recommend process changes and define processes related to technical design requirements and information sources.

  • Develop application strategic plans and practical implementation strategies relative to business applications and business intelligence.

  • Facilitates and manages the development of system specifications through detailed analysis with the business unit, IT and vendors.

  • Manages the acceptance of applications and application enhancements via formal test processes and participates in the creation of Test Plans and Strategies.

  • Participates in the creation and execution of Change Management Strategies and Plans.

  • Acts as a subject matter expert and assists in establishing Service Level Agreements.

  • Creates RFPs and RFIs for business initiatives and IT projects.

  • Development of comprehensive business cases with cost and benefit analysis for proposed new solutions and IT projects that are used at management and executive levels for funding and scoping decisions.

  • Performs market research on emerging and available products, applications and best practice to determine implementation approaches.

  • Delivers functional, technical, design, process and other documentation as required.

  • Participates in the growth of Information Technology and the development of IT standards and methodologies.


  • Certificate/Diploma/Degree in Business Analysis, Computer Science or related field is recommended.

  • Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP), or PMI-Professional in Business Analysis or similar is strongly preferred.

  • 7+ Years Information Technology Business Analysis experience supporting a broad range of technologies and enterprise systems, processes and analysis in a large complex environment.

  • 7+ Years of experience with formalized Business Analysis Methodologies and Software Development Lifecycle.

  • Proven ability to solicit and analyze business requirements, build business cases, recommend and manage business change, and apply best technical solutions.

  • 5+ Years of technical experience.

  • Product / Vendor Selection and Implementation.

  • Custom Developed Applications.

  • Relational Databases.

  • Data Warehousing and Reporting, ETL tools.

  • 5+ Years of experience in Project (Agile & Waterfall) and Change Management methodologies and approaches.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Results-oriented and customer-focused with demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships with internal and external customers to drive results.

  • Strong understanding of IT Methodologies and supporting Office Tools (MS Project, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint).

  • Transportation / Logistics experience is an asset.

  • Comfortable working in a matrix environment.

  • Ability to adapt in a complex and changing environment.

  • Superior communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Demonstrated curiosity supported by strong facilitation and interview skills to elicit user requirements and determine root cause analysis.

  • Ability to capture, deconstruct and re-engineer complex business process.

  • Superior problem solving and analytical skills with an attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under time pressures to balance conflicting priorities and resolve problems to meet established deadlines.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team player, including taking direction as required, and working well with other managers.

  • Ability to work both independently with limited supervision.

  • Comfortable and effective in eliminating barriers and working across organizational, functional boundaries to achieve corporate objectives.

  • Exercise initiative and good judgment within established procedural guidelines.
