Digital Accessibility Specialist, Digital Factory At Scotiabank

The Digital Accessibility Specialist will champion inclusive design and accessibility across Digital Banking to envision and design accessible digital experiences and interactions for Scotiabank customers. You will provide technical leadership, expert guidance, coordination and support to agile Digital Banking teams with a focus on promoting, assessing and maintaining inclusive design and web accessibility principles and techniques in Scotiabank’s digital products.

Is this role right for you?

  • You will work directly with agile teams to lead vision of accessible and inclusive user journeys and/or interactions
  • You will coach and guide designers and engineers on web accessibility principles, best practices and technical implementation techniques
  • You will coach teams through manual and automated accessibility testing and remediation techniques and methods.
  • You will work closely with cross functional teams to translate complex ideas and concepts into opportunities for creating sustainable accessibility processes, documentation, methodologies and tools
  • You will Implement and continually evolve accessibility development and testing processes, methodology, tools and criteria
  • You will create guidance and artifacts including PEGA accessibility requirements and best practices.
  • You will identify opportunities for identifying and removing accessibility barriers and positively impacting the user experience for people with disabilities and to drive the appropriate changes across the product lifecycle.
  • You will provide direction, coaching, expertise and feedback to build digital accessibility capacity within project teams.
  • You will work with PEGA project teams in a self-organized way to support agile working practice, to problem solve and to make things happen
  • You will engage thoughtfully, collaboratively and diplomatically with the engineering and business teams to identify the right support needed to drive accessibility efforts.
  • You will work closely with other accessibility, design and usability specialists within Scotiabank.
  • You will actively participate and contribute to the Design Community of Practice.
  • You will participate in usability tests with people with disabilities and identify insights that improve the user experience.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

  • You have a thorough understanding of the PEGA application framework including limitations and constraints, as it relates to accessibility.
  • You have developed a high level of awareness of disability related issues with respect to digital accessibility.
  • You have an developed an expert knowledge of accessibility standards and principles including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
  • You have a proven ability to provide accessibility solutions for designers, developers and testers.
  • You posses a thorough knowledge of accessibility testing techniques using automated and manual testing procedures.
  • You have expert knowledge of assistive technology including screen readers, print magnification software and alternative input systems.
  • You have a proven ability to effectively communicate the complexities and opportunities of accessibility and inclusive design to technical and non-technical audiences with various skillsets.
  • You have developed a well rounded understanding of usability and user interface design principles..
  • You are self-driven, with ability to take ownership and accountability; must be adept at working in a self-guided manner
  • You are comfortable working within tight timeframes and with working creatively within specific constraints
  • You are a fast learner who has an appetite to learn what’s behind both simple and complex financial solutions
  • You have 2+ years of practical web accessibility experience.
