Associate Portfolio Manager, Data Specialist - Toronto,ON At Scotiabank

Job Purpose

Perform Analytics and advise internal clients in the management of investment portfolios by ensuring asset mix and total return meet client’s short and long term income and investment growth goals as measured against prescribed Investment Policy Statements and / or Investment objectives under the supervision of the Canadian based Portfolio Manager (Private Investment Counsel) and the Bahamian based Relationship Manager.

Work closely with Portfolio Manager and Relationship Manager in advising on and support of the on-boarding, monitoring and reporting of portfolios.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide analytics, advice and portfolio oversight services by:
    • Working with the Relationship Manager in Bahamas and the Toronto based International Business Delivery team by extracting data from the Offshore Trust System (OTS) from a regular automated download and incorporating the data into the analytics systems (Bloomberg / Morningstar / Zephyr) with then provides the a comparison to the static Investment Policy Statement parameters
    • Provide intellectual capital on findings and interpret findings.
    • Research and analyze some unique situations, i.e. illiquid positions or non-discretionary components of client portfolios.
    • Maintaining the SBTB supplemental client/portfolio database and review calendar.
    • Regularly monitoring portfolios to ensure they are in-line with the security and asset mix targets and recommend rebalancing where appropriate
  • Provide timely advice and support for the Portfolio Manager or Relationship Manager by:
    • Preparing and customization of client portfolio reports and various management reporting
    • Providing direction to Portfolio Administrators or backfill support as required
    • Identifying areas of risk and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Ensure a high level of client satisfaction, internally and externally by:
    • Proactively identifying and recommending strategies to address client needs
    • Preparing communications and various reports in support of investment decisions.
    • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, firm policies and accuracy of trading activities
  • Contribute to the effective functioning of outsourced program by:
    • Assisting with various initiatives including technology projects and operational efficiency changes
    • Acting as resource for general inquiries from the other departments
    • Providing a high level of customer service through thorough analysis
    • Maintaining a culture of open and honest communication
    • Participating and contributing to touch bases and team meetings
    • Encouraging the generation of new ideas and approaches
    • Actively share knowledge and experience to enhance the development of all team members

Education/ Experience

  • A University Degree or College Diploma or equivalent
  • Strong investment management knowledge and experience as it relates to understanding economic and capital markets
  • CSC
  • CIM, or its predecessor CIF, or in process of attaining CIM accreditation or CFA designation
  • Minimum 5 years direct industry experience
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical and problem solving skills,
  • Attention to detail
  • Advanced knowledge of Bloomberg, Morningstar, Excel, PowerPoint, Mpower, Zephyr, and Crystal Reports.
