Job Title: Full time Wildlife Technician (Seasonal-April to August)

Salary: $18. 94 per hour
The Peninsula Humane Society Wildlife Care Center receives several thousand sick, injured, and orphaned wild animals every year. Our patients include songbirds, seabirds, waterfowl, raptors, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. We are looking for a qualified wildlife technician to help with the daily operation of our rehabilitation program. This person will intake wildlife, provide medical care and husbandry, respond to inquiries and help to educate members of the public about wildlife related issues, as well as assist with the training and managing of department volunteers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Knowledge of local wildlife including natural history requirements, correctly identifying incoming animals to ensure proper food, housing, enrichment, and medical care.
Position includes a lot of cleaning and labor intensive duties.
Experience handling and restraining wildlife from small songbirds to more difficult animals such as adult mammals and raptors.
The Wildlife Technician is responsible for assessing and treating incoming wildlife, and ensuring that patients are moving through the rehabilitation process in a timely fashion.
Technician will perform basic diagnostics such as blood analysis and fecal analysis. Previous experience with: animal handling and restraint, performing intake exams, fluid therapy, blood sampling, wound management, and calculating drug dosages is a plus.
Effectively multitask in a fast-paced environment, work efficiently under pressure and calmly under stressful circumstances.
The Wildlife Technician must be able to work well in a team environment and have a professional demeanor. Must be able to communicate effectively in both written form (via medical charting) and verbally with coworkers, volunteers, and the public. Must be comfortable training, supervising, and giving direction to department volunteers.

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Some college with a background in biology or a related animal science is desirable.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to members of the public, volunteers, and other employees of the organization. Good oral and written communication skills
Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide. Ability to perform these operations using units, weight measurement, and volume.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Chameleon database software or become proficient within the first six months from hire date. Basic knowledge, or become proficient with Microsoft Office and computer keyboarding skills (data entry).
