Notes:
The South Slave Divisional Education Council (SSDEC) was established in
1991 to administer the K-12 education system for five communities in the
South Slave region of the Northwest Territories - Fort Smith, Hay
River, Katlodeeche First Nation, Fort Resolution, and Lutsel K'e. Each
of our communities has a proud and storied past, steeped in northern
traditions and values. The Council serves eight schools with an
estimated student population of 1300 students. The Council strives to
prepare students to create their futures.

Situated along the shores of its namesake, Hay River is a community in growth. With approximately 4000 residents, Hay River is one of the fastest growing communities in the Northwest Territories. Whether you are seeking the conveniences of urban life or the charm of a wilderness setting, Hay River offers a unique northern perspective. The community is served by a modern hospital, an excellent public library and a vibrant business district complete with a theatre, bakery and restaurants. Off the beaten path you will find parks, wooded walking trails and pristine sandy beaches. The community is home to three modern and well-equipped schools served by dedicated teaching staffs.

Princess Alexandra School is a Grade 4-7 middle school with a total
enrolment of approx. 200 students. We strive to provide challenging
opportunities for all students while at the same time creating a
PAS-itive learning environment for all. We prize excellence in student
leadership and encourage student participation in a broad range of
curricular and extra-curricular activities throughout the school year.
We also offer an Exploratory program (high interest mini-courses) that
are very popular with our students. Some of the leadership opportunities
include our Student Council and Student Supervisor programs. Outside of
the regular classroom programs, students at Princess Alexandra School
have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular
programs. Some of the activities that have been a traditional part of
these programs include Soccer, Basketball, Choir, Cross Country Running,
Cross Country Skiing, Indoor Soccer, Karaoke (PA Idol) and Track &
Field.
