Note: This is a temporary full-time summer student position with an anticipated end date of August 31st, 2019.
The Centre for Oil Sands Sustainability is looking to hire 1 full-time summer student to begin working on a full-time basis starting in late April 2019. The position is located on NAIT main campus. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to assist Senior Researchers and Technologists in the implementation of technology development or verification and validation studies of oil sands related technologies, products or solutions.
The Centre for Oil Sands Sustainability is located in NAIT’s new, state-of-the art research laboratory in the Productivity and Innovation Centre. COSS is staffed by an expert team of applied scientists, engineers and technicians. We bridge the gap between existing oil sands environmental research and real-world solutions, taking innovative ideas from concept to commercialization. We work with business and industry to develop technologies that improve the economic and environmental performance of the oil sands industry.
Providing support on all analysis (Karl Fischer, Sediment & Water by Centrifuge, Density by Hydrometer, Density by Densitometer, Viscosity by Stabinger Viscometer)
Create different solutions, titration and other wet chemistry tests, including crude oil products
Acquire and tabulate data using Excel; macros would be an asset
Perform calculations on the tabulated data
Assist with reports/presentations, summarizing the data obtained using Word and Power Point
Capable of clearly stating objectives for experiments and documenting observations
Some field related work may also be required – on site with operators or service companies
Must be currently enrolled in a program at a recognized collegial institute
Being a student of the NAIT Chemical Technology Program, Chemical Engineering Technology Program or other related program area of study is an asset
Must have an interest in research and have familiarity with lab instrumentation, experimental design and the oil sands industry
Demonstrated comfort with computers and the use of Microsoft Office Applications
Must be willing to sign a mutual non-disclosure agreement
Remuneration: $16.84/hour - $20.89/hour (+ 11.2% in lieu of benefits)
