The Product team is accountable for developing sound product strategies to support Group Benefit’s growth objectives and distinguish Group Benefits as the best-in-class service provider in the Canadian market. Our key accountability is to develop, monitor and refining short and long-term strategies for key product portfolios to support the overall performance of the product, ensuring that they are bold and deliver value to our plan sponsors, plan members and ultimately shareholders of Manulife.


This role will focus on the Group Benefit’s Health, Dental, HCSA, LSA and Travel product portfolio.


Your mandate is to:

  • Provide directional leadership on the GB product strategies, roadmaps and plans

  • Analyze emerging opportunities and through collaboration with business partners, prioritize, build business plans and execute the delivery of new and enhanced products/solutions

  • Develop a team of professionals that drive continuous progression, performance and communication creativity in providing effective product strategies and tactics to clients and partners

  • Collaborate effectively with your peers across the different product portfolios to craft richer product solutions and experiences

  • Collaborate with the operational teams to help lead product performance, both financial and risk

  • Identify and negotiate vendor partnerships that will further differentiate and deliver value to the product portfolio


Individual Accountabilities:

  • Provide leadership, mentoring and coaching to the product management team

  • Set the strategy, roadmap and priorities for the portfolio taking into account industry trends, emerging services, financial performance, product risk and competitive landscape

  • Support product development and management

  • Build and implement product strategies and plans for the GB organization

  • Manage risk within the product portfolio

  • Management of several projects at a time in a dynamic environment with increased complexity to GB products and increased inter dependency between products and services

  • Ability to influence and collaborate across all areas of GB and at all levels of strategy


Key Shared Accountabilities:

  • Vendor opportunity assessment and negotiation

  • Product marketing strategy

  • Sales team support

  • Network with the Innovation and Product teams across the organization

  • Operational readiness for product development or improvements


Job Requirements:

  • University degree in related field, MBA would be an asset

  • 7-10 years relevant experience in the GB industry, in particular Health and Dental or GB Finance and Pricing

  • Deep understanding of GB product offerings and various financial arrangements within the business

  • Proven expertise in planning and executing product strategies

  • In-depth knowledge of business needs, and insurance industry practices

  • Ability to drive and inspire change through strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Exemplary leadership, problem solving, decision-making and innovative thinking skills
