Quality Engineer At Magna Exteriors

Location: Concord, Ontario

Magna Exteriors, a wholly-owned operating unit of Magna International, is a global supplier of exterior products and systems. As a market leader with a focus on innovation, we offer a wide array of products including bumper fascia systems; exterior trim; modular systems; class A body panels; and structural components for automotive, commercial truck, consumer, and industrial markets.

Job Introduction
Co-Ex-Tec, a division of Magna Exteriors, is hiring a Quality Engineer for our Concord location. If you have an innate ability to manage customer/supplier quality program launches; can independently design, execute and evaluate quality systems particular to control plans, and PPAP requirements in a fast paced manufacturing environment, we invite you to join our team.
Major Responsibilities
1.Manage program quality by establishing front-end quality assurance on new programs; completing Supplier and Customer sampling and control plan requirements; directing the dimensional control of on-going programs; ensuring that all products shipped meet all Customer dimensional, material and systems specifications or documented deviations to those specifications, all at minimum cost.
2.Independently design, execute and evaluate quality systems particular to assigned products, such as control plans, etc. Original thought is required on check fixture designs, Customer sampling plans and paperwork, evaluation of suppliers’ PPAP and the meeting of Customer’s changing requirements
3.Participate as an active member of the APQP team; complete all APQP tasks as required
4.Assist in GD&T determination.
5.Identify SPC (Statistical Process Control) requirements.
6.Participate actively in PPAP (Product Part Approval Process).
7.Visit assembly plants and issue trip reports on those visits as determined by the Quality Manager.
8.Obtain Customer approvals on all parts and quality systems, and ensure that they meet appropriate Customer requirements and retain documentation of same.
9.Ensure all products (purchased and manufactured) are to the appropriate engineering change level.
10.Ensure compliance to QMS (IATF16949), EMS (ISO14001), and security (PIP) requirements.
11.Ensure, with the cooperation of other Co-Ex-Tec departments and Corporate that the division achieves and maintains the highest possible Customer rating for satisfaction; strive for zero defects in all areas of the business.
12.Ensure enforcement of Customer Specific Requirements and Quality Management System (TS16949) without compromising either Co-Ex-Tec or its Customers.
13.Follow all work cell and/or department standardized work instructions/procedures.
14.Initiate and/or participate in continuous improvement activities.
15.Promote and comply with health, safety, and environmental standards, safe operating procedures, good housekeeping practices and the observance of protective equipment requirements at all times.
16.Attend authorized training in order to develop and/or maintain relevant job-related knowledge, techniques, skills, and/or certification.
17.May be required to carry out job duties and responsibilities in a work environment that may include, but is not limited to, varying levels of noise and/or temperature.
Knowledge and Education
•Post-Secondary Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate engineering or technical field
  • ASQ “Certified Quality Engineer” certification preferred
  • Able to read and interpret automotive engineering drawings and math data including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Working knowledge of statistical techniques including some familiarity with experimental design, SPC and charting, measurement systems analysis, etc.
  • Thorough understanding of dimensional measurement techniques
  • Working knowledge of quality systems and procedures.
Work Experience
•3 - 5 years’ experience in quality manufacturing or a related field, preferably in the automotive industry.
  • Working knowledge of statistical techniques including some familiarity with experimental design, SPC and charting, measurement systems analysis, etc.
  • Thorough understanding of dimensional measurement techniques
  • Working knowledge of quality systems and procedures.
  • Good working knowledge of SQC / SPC techniques and relevant computer applications
  • Knowledge of Co-Ex-Tec products and processes, an asset
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing, an asset
