Mackenzie Investments is looking to add a Junior Economist to its Multi-Asset Strategies team in the Investment Management department. Working closely with the Chief Economist, the candidate will be responsible for conducting research in global macroeconomics and asset allocation. The candidate will conduct data analysis, update and maintain models, prepare chart packs and develop original and differentiated macroeconomic views, helping in the asset allocation investment process.

The main responsibilities of the role:
Conduct research on global macroeconomic developments in developed and emerging markets;
Conduct research to forecast the risk and returns of all major asset classes such as stocks, bonds, currencies and commodities and related derivatives;
Analyze a variety of macroeconomic data points;
Systematize the use of global macroeconomic data by using computer programming to automate chart generation and data analysis;
Support the Chief Economist by assisting in the writing of reports and the generation of marketing materials;
Present at external meetings, both in small groups and for large client audiences, explaining complex material to meet audience needs
Share findings internally to help other team members make investment decisions
Minimum requirements for this role include:
- Fluency in both English and French required
MA, MSc or PhD in economics with specialization in macroeconomics (exp. in applied econometrics)
- 2-5 years of relevant work experience in a macroeconomics or finance-related field (asset manager, central bank, finance department or Treasury, independent research firm, broker-dealer or bank);
Strong understanding of macroeconomics and its link to financial markets;
Passion for markets and top-down investing;
Research skills - empirical & analytic work in macroeconomic & financial sectors
Presentation skills - interact internal and external stakeholders
Writing skills - prepare research publications
Functional knowledge of programming (e.g. Python, R) and MS Office;
Ability to produce work with a high degree of accuracy within tight deadlines;
High degree of attention to detail;
Strong team spirit and ability to work collaboratively;
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
