Responsibilities

Will be a member of the Robotic Vehicles and Manipulators Group of the Mobility and Robotic Systems Section and will report to the Aerial Mobility Group Supervisor. Will be provided with hands-on work experience in the application of conceptual and theoretic curriculum within Engineering. Will be responsible for design and fabrication of mechanisms and structure by Group engineering staff.

In compliance with programmatic constraints, investigates, plans, designs and develops, mechanical products and systems such as spacecraft, instruments, robots, packaged electronics, controls, engines, and machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, propulsion, or heat transfer systems for the production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Maintains cognizance of and is responsible for all technical and programmatic aspects of the product being developed, reporting the status and performance to the appropriate organizations. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

  • Performs routine job functions and activities within assigned area.
  • Participates on concept development teams by utilizing new approaches and tools acquired from current academic experience.
  • Assists Scientists and Engineers with the analyses and data collection on Proposal or Concept Study Report (CSR) Development.
  • Assists scientists and engineers working on requirements and alternative configurations.
  • Assists with the maintenance, status, analysis, and reporting of assigned project schedules and associated metrics.
  • Attends peer reviews of system performance verification & validation documentation as required.
  • Works on day-to-day assignments under direct supervision; receives detailed instructions on new assignments.
  • Uses applicable policies, procedures and practices as guides to determine work methods and deliver results.
  • Work is reviewed for accuracy and overall adequacy.
  • Seeks guidance in applying applicable policies, procedures and practices to new situations to determine appropriate action.
  • Interacts primarily with immediate supervisor and team members within own organization.
  • Participates on a team within own organization.

Qualifications

Required Skills:
  • Must be currently enrolled at least half-time at an accredited college or university pursuing a Bachelors degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum GPA 3.0.
  • Completed coursework with exposure to standard principles, theories, concepts and techniques in solving mechanical and electromechanical design problems.
  • Knowledge and experience with CAD packages such as SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge and experience with MS Office.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
Desired Skills:
  • Prior internship experience in related engineering disciplines.
  • Participation in student organizations.
  • Participation as a member of a student design team.
  • Participation as a member of an academic research laboratory.
