Electronics Engineer I At Jet Propulsion Laboratory

Location: Pasadena, California

Job Description

Overview

New ideas are all around us, but only a few will change the world. That’s our focus at JPL. We ask the biggest questions, then search the universe for answers—literally. We build upon ideas that have guided generations, then share our discoveries to inspire generations to come. Your mission—your opportunity—is to seek out the answers that bring us one step closer. If you’re driven to discover, create, and inspire something that lasts a lifetime and beyond, you’re ready for JPL.

Located in Pasadena, California, JPL has a campus-like environment situated on 177 acres in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains and offers a work environment unlike any other: we inspire passion, foster innovation, build collaboration, and reward excellence.

Responsibilities

As an Electronics Engineer in the JPL Power I&T and BTE group, you will engage in crafting and testing electronics subsystems. You'll build support equipment and be involved in multiple aspects of power electronics development from concept to delivery. Working closely with Power Electronics Cognizant Engineers, Senior Design Engineers and the Technical Group Supervisor, you will:
  • Consolidate engineering data for the development of bench test equipment.
  • Be involved with the design, analysis, implementation and testing of support equipment hardware and software.
  • Develop functional and environmental test procedures.
  • Partner with other specialists in debugging and anomaly resolution of electronics hardware.
  • Participate in reviews required for developing and delivering flight hardware.
  • Develop and execute task plans and budgets for test campaigns for space flight hardware, including functional, stress, and environmental testing of power electronics.
  • Give support to the development of system designs and requirements for space power systems and power electronics.
  • Design and develop power and sensor electronics for space missions and other applications.
  • Handle the designing, developing, procuring, integrating of test equipment.
  • You'll be building configuration management, and applying this to test equipment and all related software used for testing power and other electronic hardware at all levels, from components through assemblies. This includes the collection and archiving of test data according to institutional requirements, maintaining and certifying the power electronics test laboratory to ensure the safety of flight hardware.
  • You'll be responsible for all documentation related to conceptual development, reliability, structural, and thermal analyses, design drawings, and build, assembly, and test.
  • Involved on reporting upon technical progress, schedule, and budget to Line, Project, and Institutional Management.
Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work on developing advanced electronics technology to improve and enable future missions. You'll be able to support the development of mission proposals using your expertise in the current state-of-the-practice in space electronics.
