The JPL Communications, Tracking and Radar Division performs scientific investigations, advanced technology research, engineering developments and system implementations encompassing space telecommunications, tracking and active remote sensing using electromagnetic waves.
Within the Communications, Tracking and Radar Division, the Flight Communications Section engineers cost-effective space borne communications systems, services and products including direct-to-Earth (DTE) and proximity relay links for NASA/JPL and non-NASA missions; developing, delivering and supporting software-defined radios (SDRs), spacecraft and airborne antennas, RF power amplifiers, and related products for RF system applications. Also, this section specializes in optical communications, including deep space lasers, sensitive single-photon detectors and actuator-sensor systems for accurate narrow laser beam pointing, in addition to developing telecom concepts and demonstrating them for infusion into operational ground and space systems of NASA missions, for DARPA, and other agencies.

We seek a self-motivated individual who can work well both independently and in a team environment to serve as an Electronic Ground Support Equipment Engineer for our Communication Support Equipment and Ground Systems Group (337C).
Lead a team that will design, develop, document, implement, and verify Electronic Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) including electronic instrumentation and interface chassis used to test Engineering Model (EM) and Flight Model (FM) electronics. Design, develop, document, implement, and verify all interconnect EGSE cabling. Perform electrical integration, testing and verification for multiple project EM and FM electronics.
Apply broad knowledge in field to evaluate customer engineering requirements and devises approaches to meet requirements.
Develop Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) using LabVIEW graphical programing software, write and execute test procedures, command scripts, and IBATs to verify EM and FM electronics functionality and performance.
Participates as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and presents results in component and subsystem design reviews as significant contributor to design.
Present EGSE section at Preliminary Design Reviews (PDRs) and Critical Design Reviews (CDRs) and leads EGSE reviews, Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs).
Works independently on important assignments and projects with only limited supervision, typically receiving only general instructions.
Setup, configure, and verify EGSE in clean room lab for EM and FM Integration and Test (I&T) and develop Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs) for EGSE verification.
Serve as Test Lead/Engineer in a cleanroom environment as well as at various Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) test facilities.
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware/software problems in the EGSE system; will also contribute in problem/failure investigations involving the EM or FM hardware.
Will write detailed Problem Failure Reports (PFRs) and document additional testing that may be required to resolve PFRs.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical disciplines with 6 years of related experience; or Master's degree in similar disciplines with 4 years of related experience; or PhD in similar disciplines with 2 years of related experience.
Requires experience in developing EGSE for, the purpose of testing JPL EM and FM hardware.
nowledge of analog/digital/power electronic circuits and systems.
Has advanced understanding and experience with instrument command and telemetry protocols.
Test automation systems and software including scripting languages and Graphical User Interface (GUI) design.

Must have extensive knowledge of JPL policies and procedures, Flight Project Practices, NASA policies and procedures, and applicable government regulations.
Thorough understanding of modern test instrumentation and the interfaces and software used to control and monitor their functionality.
Ability to train and mentor others in the development and use of EGSE hardware/software during technical interchange meetings to facilitate others in becoming proficient in EGSE operations and understanding the nuanced behaviors between EGSE and hardware interfaces.
Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware/software problems in EGSE systems; will also contribute in problem/failure investigations involving the EM or FM hardware.
Ability to write detailed Problem Failure Reports (PFRs).
Has advanced knowledge of applicable Laboratory policies and procedures, NASA policies and procedures, and government regulations.
