Payroll Accountant At Jet Linx Aviation

Location: Omaha, Nebraska

Job Description

Position Summary:

The Payroll Accountant leads payroll processing for all Jet Linx Aviation team members. The position has about 75% of time allocated to payroll related functions and about 25% of time dedicated to supporting corporate accounting throughout each month.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for processing bi-weekly company payroll, 401(k) and benefits invoices within company dictated timeline. Prepare and post related journal entries to the general ledger.
  • Perform monthly calculations related to commissions within eligible teams, process insurance bills, complete reconciliations of payroll related accounts, and prepare files to bill pilot payroll expenses.
  • Conducts quality checks on all Personnel Action Forms entered into ADP by Human Resources. Ensures all changes in ADP are valid and provides final approval to employee time entries, taxes, insurance, deductions, salary splits and collects information on termed employees.
  • Partners with Human Resources to provide reporting information such as Department of Labor statistics and others that would be required.
  • Maintain expertise in payroll related issues such as payroll tax, work state assignments, and changes in legislation requiring updates to policies like relocation allotments, overtime requirements and documentation required on pay stubs.
  • Register and maintain active registration for Jet Linx to be a recognized employer in all states in which we have team members.
  • Partner with Revenue Accounting Team, Bases and Human Resources to provide answers to questions regarding variances in insurance bills/payments, payroll pilot costs passed through to aircraft owners, tax withholding, etc.
  • Perform ongoing duties related to corporate accounting such as fixed assets, cash and prepaid expenses; Preparing month-end financial reporting for specified locations.
  • Prepare and file various federal and state reports required by regulatory agencies including customs, sales & use tax and property tax.
  • Act as the main point of contact for the external auditors on the 401(k) audit. Assist with the financial year-end audit, including providing all necessary information related to payroll accounts and other owned accounting areas, for the external auditors
  • Assist with department-wide process improvement, design, documentation, testing and implementation
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skill & Abilities:

  • High attention to detail and very strong organizational skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, strong knowledge of Excel is required
  • Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Self-motivated and independent problem-solving ability
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Education & Work Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience in payroll processing and activities as describes required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred; Associate degree in Accounting or Finance with 2+ years of payroll-related work experience.
  • Payroll software experience required, previous experience with ADP desired.
  • Membership or active participation in on-going payroll-related education such as American Payroll Association.

Physical Requirements:

  • Majority of work is completed in a normal office work environment
  • Communicate through verbal, written and electronic means
  • Operate office equipment such as telephone, computer, printer, fax, postage meter, etc.
  • Move up to 25 pounds on an infrequent basis
  • Access filing cabinets, drawers and shelves of varying heights
