RBI League Convenor - Jays Care Foundation At Jays Care Foundation

RBI League Convenors (2 positions)

Jays Care Foundation knows that, when used intentionally, baseball has the power to create lasting social change for children and youth. That's why we help kids get involved in the game, build safe spaces in which they can play and design and deliver baseball for development programs that help kids develop the life skills they need to succeed. Jays Care Foundation is seeking two League Convenors to support the planning and implementation of Jays Care’s Reviving Baseball in Inner-Cities (RBI) program.

Reviving Baseball In Inner-Cities (RBI) is a structured baseball league that takes place in 40 inner-city schools across Toronto. The RBI Program is designed to use baseball as a vehicle for kids to build their confidence, represent their community and learn the values of being a true team player. Teams participate in weekly games and practices followed by a championship tournament. Candidates should be energetic and passionate with extensive experience working in sport and/or recreation program in a leadership role.

Contract Duration: February 2020 – June 2020

Occasional evening and weekend work? Yes

Hours Per Week:

  • February: Approximately 12 hours per week
  • March: Approximately 16 hours per week
  • April – June: Approximately 24 hours per week

NOTE: most work hours fall between 10 am and 5pm, however this role involves occasional evening work. All work hours are between Monday and Friday.

Reporting to: Senior Program Coordinator, RBI and Indigenous Initiatives

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • RBI Program Planning Support
  • Lead the recruitment of RBI Head Coaches and RBI Volunteer Assistant Coaches
  • Speak with students at local colleges/universities regarding RBI coaching opportunities
  • Support the hiring/interview process of RBI Head Coaches
  • Visit participating RBI schools across Toronto to meet with Teacher Coaches and school administrators
  • Support the planning and facilitation of RBI Coaches Training
  • RBI Program Ongoing Support
  • Regularly visit RBI schools to steward school administration and support program implementation
  • Assess RBI program quality
  • Serve as lead Jays Care liaison with RBI schools
  • Provide on-the-ground coaching and support to RBI Coaches
  • Address program concerns as they arise
  • Assist with program administrative duties (i.e. book transportation, track coach hours, submit coach reimbursements, etc.)
  • RBI Program Special Events
  • Support the design and implementation of 5 RBI Championship Tournaments
  • Book venues and vendors to ensure each event is a success
  • Submit invoices and track expenditures to ensure that events are within budget

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Completed or currently working towards post-secondary degree/diploma in recreation and leisure, education, sport management, or related field.
  • 3+ years working in the field of recreation, youth programming and/or sport for development
  • Experience working in a leadership role
  • Familiarity and experience coaching and leading baseball activities an asset
  • Strong problem solving and group work leadership skills
  • Willingness to work unique hours
  • Valid ‘G’ Driver’s License

DESIRED (ASSET):

  • Experience working with children, youth and/or adults in low socio-economic neighborhoods
  • Experience managing, mentoring and coaching adults
  • Experience playing/coaching/coordinating organized sport

  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Strong planning and coordination skills
  • Exceptional computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Programs including Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote
