Project Manager I At James Hardie

Location: Chicago, Illinois

Job Description

Position Summary

The Project Manager simultaneously leads a wide variety of projects in support of the sales organization in the spirit of continuous improvement, lean & standardization. This role will have direct accountability for assigned projects and should expect to work within any commercial organization depending on business need. This role works cross-functionally as well as with external stakeholders such as customers and suppliers. This position will report to the Director, Sales Operations – Continuous Improvement and does not have any direct reports. Travel is expected to be up to 25%.


Position Responsibilities


  • Work directly with the sales organization on identified critical projects to enable consistency within the sales organization.
  • Through time in the field and interactions with other cross-functional teams identify and bring to the table areas for improvement across the sales organization.
  • Work effectively in a matrixed organization and influence without direct leadership
  • Management of 2 – 3 core projects at any one time, as well as smaller additional projects
  • Manages full scope of projects, from planning to implementation
  • Ensures resource availability and allocation throughout the project, within scope and budget
  • Collaborates with cross-functional internal resources and external vendors for seamless communication and execution
  • Continuously tracks performance and progress, evaluates, and recommends changes
  • Will perform analysis and ad-hoc reporting as necessary to drive data driven outcomes
    • Pulls and analyzes information from a variety of internal and external resources to solve product group problems
    • Draws conclusions and insights from data and communicates them up through the business

Position Requirements


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (required):

  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects through to completion
  • Ability to influence up and down and work cross-functionally
  • Proven written and presentation skills with the ability to communicate at all levels
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
  • Results-oriented to ensure delivery of appropriate products and services in an accurate, complete and timely fashion
  • Ability to adapt to changes and effectively work within new structures, processes or requirements
  • Demonstrated capability at synthesizing data into meaningful insights and takeaways


Education/Experience (required):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sales, Marketing, Business, or related field (PMP helpful, but not required)
  • 3 – 4 years or more of experience in sales, channel, or project management
  • Proven project management experience in a cross-functional environment
