Loans Administrator At IC Savings

Location: Etobicoke, Ontario

Job Description

The Loans Administrator assists with the day-to-day administration, processing and maintenance of loans, mortgages and lines of credit. In addition to reviewing and mitigating risks related to credit and collections, this position has an important role in ensuring the accuracy of the credit union’s records, files and reporting.

We successfully launched our career development program in 2016. This 12-month paid internship offers valuable workplace experience, mentoring, and training and networking opportunities to recent post-secondary graduates so that they can successfully bridge the gap between school and career.


What You Will Learn

Through one-on-one coaching, mentoring and on-the-job training, you will develop an understanding of the full credit-granting process, including the many steps in the life cycle of a loan or mortgage as well as what is required to approve a loan, a line of credit or a mortgage.

Under certain conditions, the Loans Administrator may advance to the Assistant Underwriter in the second half of their Career HeadStart term. During this time, s/he will be involved in credit decisions.


What You Will Do

  • Obtain required credit/financial information;
  • Respond to and follow up on inquiries about credit and savings;
  • Prepare and maintain files, documents, reports and database contacts in accordance with established guidelines;
  • Verify and ensure completeness of assigned loan files;
  • Prepare and track disbursements and fee collection;
  • Ensure accurate administration, tracking and timely issuance of broker referral frees;
  • Assist in the review and issuance of loan renewals, discharges and information statements;
  • Ensure contractual obligations of the members are maintained: make soft collection calls for overdue payments; follow up on arrears in property taxes, insurance and condo maintenance fees;
  • Act as a first point of contact for solicitor and broker inquiries regarding pending and funded files;
  • Provide instructions to solicitors as per file approval;
  • Set up files and folders; set up loan payments on the banking system; file documents.

Qualifications Required

To be eligible for this Career HeadStart position, you must satisfy the following criteria:

  • You graduated from a Canadian accredited university or college at least six but not more than 24 months ago from the Posting Date;
  • You are fluent in English;
  • You are eligible to work in Canada;
  • You are committed to learning and spending 12 months in this program.

Possessing a high level of professionalism, integrity and accountability, the successful candidate is someone who pays great attention to detail in their daily work, and enjoys the opportunity to learn and contribute to the member experience in a positive way. Equally comfortable working independently and as part of a team, this individual demonstrates strong communications skills and excellent priority-setting, follow-up and follow-through in addition to these other qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in commerce, business, finance, economics or similar, preferably with a focus on real estate or lending;
  • Prior experience in customer service role with cash handling and balancing responsibilities is considered an asset;
  • Very good MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and data entry skills.


Working Conditions/Physical Effort

  • Professional and team-oriented office environment;
  • 37.5 hour work week (Monday to Wednesday from 9 am to 5 pm, Thursday and Friday from 9 am to 6 pm) with the ability to work overtime, if required;
  • Physical demands include sitting, considerable use of computer and phone and infrequent moving or lifting of items of varying weight;
  • Periodic travel between Toronto and Etobicoke offices located at 2900 Dufferin Street and 5300 Dundas Street West, respectively.
