Graphic Artist At Great West Life

Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba

Job Description

As part of the Corporate Communications team, you produce creative solutions to deliver messages to our employees, customers and financial advisors, every day Canadians, just like you!

You will create visual solutions to communicate ideas that inspire, inform, or captivate consumers. You’ll develop the overall layout and production design for online and print advertisements, brochures, publications, and PowerPoint presentations. You’ll have the skillset to apply iconography, infographics, typography and photography in creative ways to solve design problems and achieve communications objectives. This could involve transforming statistical data into visual graphics and diagrams to make complex ideas more accessible. You’ll work as part of collaborative project teams that include communications and marketing and website professionals and business experts.

This position reports to the Associate Manager, Corporate Communications and is located in Winnipeg.


What you’ll do every day:

  • Develop and execute creative, high-quality and cost-effective digital and printed material solutions
  • Work with team members to develop engaging, customer-focused designs in English and French
  • Collaborate with communications partners, business partners and outside vendors on creative and technical design projects
  • Create final artwork in a MAC environment and know the software capabilities and file formats required for various mediums to ensure compatibility with supplier and/or printing company
  • Review printer’s proofs before final printing
  • Source stock photography, illustrations, vectors and imagery
  • Create custom illustrations
  • Produce digital assets (PDFs, graphics, templates, PPTs etc.) as well as print materials
  • Consistently and creatively apply corporate design and brand standards
  • Liaise with printing companies, prepare all print-ready files
  • Plan, follow and apply workflow and processes accurately and consistently
  • Communicate regularly and openly with project co-ordinators and production team
  • Work productively with team members located in Winnipeg, London Montreal, and Toronto
You’ll find success if you have:
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a graphic designer
  • Post-secondary education in Graphic Design
  • Proficient in Adobe creative cloud Adobe Indesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience in videography and video editing
  • Experience creating tables, tabs, style sheets and master pages in Adobe Indesign
  • Full understanding of color separation when preparing electronic files and the ability to choose effective paper stocks and provide print specifications
  • Great understanding of the fundamentals of design: visual hierarchy, layout, typography, color theory, etc – you’ll need to submit a portfolio as part of the selection process.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Advanced skills and experience designing with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, an asset
