Service Improvement Manager At City of Calgary

Location: Calgary, Alberta

As the Service Improvement Manager you will be a collaborative leader and strategic thinker with a customer-centric focus, capable of leading improvement initiatives for Planning & Development Services. This position will provide clear and focused leadership to multi-disciplinary teams, from across the corporation, with results focused on efficiencies for citizens and customers. This position will directly manage Project Managers and lead project teams through strategic decision making, prioritization of work and assignment of budget and resources. Primary duties include:
  • Lead strategic improvement programs and projects through management and coordination of multidisciplinary activities to ensure improvements are executed in an effective, cost efficient and timely manner.
  • Manage and support staff to ensure the most effective and efficient approaches are used and encourage innovation.
  • Build relationships within Planning & Development and with partner business units to ensure effective use of resources, human and financial.
  • Create and support a cohesive and committed culture of improvement and innovation that achieves results for the department, corporation and ultimately citizens and customers.
  • Understand the impact of the improvement activities on all staff and implement change management tactics as required.
  • Manage and control all aspects of programs and projects to forecast costs, obtain approvals, identify trends and take action to avoid cost overruns and take advantage of opportunities.


Qualifications
  • An undergraduate degree in Engineering, Science or Business with a minimum of 8 years of related experience.
  • A graduate degree in Business Administration (MBA) and/or professional certifications such as Project Management Professional/ Program Management Professional (PMP/PgMP) are considered assets.
  • Ability to define the program by leveraging business improvement management methods and techniques, such as Business Process Management (BPM), Lean, Six Sigma.
  • Experience supervising and leading teams to deliver on strategic objectives, ensuring effective governance, quality and controls.
  • Demonstrate success in advancing project management maturity and aligning with corporate standards and/or best practices.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.

Location: 800 Macleod Trail S.E.

Compensation: Level E $77,891 - 117,609 per annum
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week with one day off in a 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
