DIRECTOR, STRATEGY- ADVISORY SERVICES At Business Development Bank of Canada

Location: Montréal, Quebec

Job Description

The Director, Strategy - Advisory Services contributes to establishing the overall strategy of BDC Advisory Services in collaboration with the leadership team of the Division. He/she is responsible for strategy formulation, strategy planning and implementation of specific initiatives that supports the objectives of the Division and BDC’s corporate strategy.




CHALLENGES TO BE MET


  • Support the leadership team of BDC Advisory Services in formulating its mid to long-term business strategy, ensuring alignment with the corporate strategy
  • Lead BDC Advisory Services’ strategic overall process in collaboration with the Corporate Strategy & Initiatives group, defining strategic direction and objectives, establishing key performance indicators and driving the review process of the performance management
  • Ensure proper corporate reporting for BDC’s Advisory Services, including presentations to the Board of Directors, Senior Management Committee, Strategic Retreats and other internal & external stakeholders
  • Support BDC Advisory Services’ leadership team as needed, working closely with the Business Development and Delivery Teams to understand clients’ needs and expectations and with Advisory Services Shared Services for analysis and reporting, reaching out to other BDC support functions when appropriate.
  • Promote and drive corporate strategic initiatives in collaboration with other business units, fostering innovative thinking
  • Acquire and maintain an in-depth understanding of BDC activities and the environment in which BDC operates, particularly with respect to the non-financial services offered by financial institutions, public and private organizations, agencies and government corporations active in the entrepreneurial ecosystem, government policies, Canadian SME profiles, foreign development banks, etc.
  • Monitor and proactively analyze, on an ongoing basis, internal and external events that affect BDC, in order to provide ideas and intellectual leadership for both short-term tactics and long-term strategic vision
  • Keep abreast of major Canadian and global economic trends that could affect SMEs
  • Manage a professional that will support the strategy and business analysis activities and the implementation of specific initiatives



WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR


  • Bachelor's degree in business or economics. Graduate degree an asset.
  • Eight to ten years' relevant experience, including three to five years in strategy formulation and execution
  • Experience in strategy consulting and/or working with SMEs would be a definite asset
  • Ability to develop and structure complex strategic planning documents, and to carry out related quantitative financial analyses
  • Ability to play a pivotal role in designing and implementing strategic initiatives
  • Ability to understand economic and business trends/issues that affect SMEs, including financial and non-financial service offerings, that could impact BDC's strategy
  • Ability to gather information and data from various sources to produce solid summaries that can be translated into concrete actions
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, combined with the ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders and directly influence them
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure so as to meet tight and often conflicting deadlines
  • Good judgment, tact and discretion
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written, in both official languages
