This position reports to the Manager, Data Governance and has very close interactions with members of the Enterprise Data Management branch and the broader Information Technology department to ensure alignment, coordination, and physical technology implementation.
The Data Architect leads the design, definition, and management of the data structures and models required to support the overall data program at BCI in partnership with colleagues across various stakeholder departments. The role will place emphasis on the concept of managing 'data as meaning' – where primary focus is on ensuring that the meaning of data is precise, unambiguous, consistent, and transparent throughout the organization. The Data Architect will be accountable for ensuring that corporate data sets have well-defined characteristics and metadata, and that they are included in an overall taxonomy that appropriately represents our data assets in the context of our business activities.
A key challenge for the Data Architect will be establishing a framework to ensure that these activities are incorporated into existing and future state workflows and that the data architecture function emphasizes application over theory while also aligning to broader data and architectural strategies at BCI. The incumbent will also demonstrate leadership in improving overall data accessibility for end users and integration teams.
A role in data management requires strong organizational skills, acute attention to detail, and the ability to conceptualize the sometimes-abstract areas of data management and governance. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in data management with an emphasis on conceptual and logical data modeling of common domains such as financial instruments, portfolio structures, holdings, benchmarks, and derivatives. An in-depth understanding of data and technology trends within asset management is highly desirable.
The Data Architect will be providing significant support to Enterprise Data Management's efforts around data governance and project delivery. The incumbent will work very closely with business analysts, data analysts, developers, and both data producers and consumers to ensure that data requirements are captured and modeled appropriately to enable efficient processes, high data quality, and appropriate data accessibility.
