Job Description

BCIT Information Technology Services Department Is seeking a regular, full-time Back-end Web Developer (Intermediate Systems Analyst) with advanced WordPress experience. BCIT is transitioning to WordPress from an outdated enterprise content management system (CMS). As a member of our Web Services team, you will play a crucial role in the architecture, development and deployment of our WordPress environment.

As a Backend Web Developer, you are versed in advanced PHP techniques, and actively working in the WordPress website and plugin development field. You are up-to-speed and knowledgeable about the most recent releases and standards of WordPress.

Minimum Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum two-year diploma in Computer Systems / Web Development or bachelor's degree in science or business; and minimum four years of current, practical experience, of which at least two demonstrate web project development experience, preferably in an educational setting.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Must have demonstrated specific current IT knowledge.
  • Proven commitment to providing and maintaining the highest level of customer service.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet changing priorities and multi-task while meeting strict deadlines.
  • Must be a team player and work well with cross-departmental teams.
  • Ability to learn quickly and apply new knowledge and techniques.
  • Commitment to regular ongoing professional development (including specific IT skills, professional associations, and current industry trends).
  • High level of professionalism and ethics.

QUALIFICATION SPECIFICS:
  • Thorough knowledge of WordPress, PHP and MySQL.
  • Extensive experience implementing complex, scaled multisite WordPress sites.
  • Experienced with Git and Jira.
  • Virtualization for development, including experience with Vagrant, Docker, etc.
  • Detailed understanding of backend performance best practices.
  • Ability to write quality, well-organized code and employ excellent debugging and testing skills.
  • Knowledge of jQuery and JavaScript.
  • Excellent understanding of, and adherence to, both code and process documentation.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and consultative support skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
