The Senior Analyst, Credit Risk Analytics is accountable for executing improvement initiatives across BMO’s enterprise risk capital and stress testing area, specifically the SAS platform. This includes enhancements to help SAS operate more efficiently and effectively, translating business needs into business and data requirements and SAS capabilities. This role delivers high business impact given it is accountable for supporting required improvements/capabilities for the total bank credit portfolio at the enterprise level that impact the bank’s capital demand. This role also coordinates activities across a multitude of stakeholders, within and across Operating Groups, Risk, Finance, Economics, T&O, vendors, etc.
Establish and formulate business requirements and capabilities necessary to support credit risk analytics across the Operating Groups, Material Risk Groups, and RCMD (45%)
Gather and document credit risk analytics infrastructure requirements and the deliverables.
Identify opportunities to improve credit risk analytics infrastructure in a more efficient and effective manner across the enterprise. Provide timely, insightful, forward-looking, and actionable recommendations to enhance the credit risk analytics infrastructure solution.
Develop and recommend alternatives/enhancements for the credit risk analytics infrastructure projects, that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the SAS tools.
Support an improvement agenda for continuous improvement of business processes and procedures within the scope of the team’s responsibilities. Support continuous improvement of the broader RCMD organization and risk analytics processes.
Increase the effectiveness and efficiency of existing operational methods and workflows by identifying and implementing process improvements.
Expand the knowledge set by understanding a range of practices regarding credit risk management, coverage, and usage among peers in the financial services industry.
Identify implementation approaches, tools, and processes for the credit risk analytics projects.
Support the development of prototypes or ad-hoc reports using the SAS platform based on emerging business needs or risk analytic needs using new and efficient approaches.
Support the Credit Risk Analytics Requirements and Capabilities (45%)
Act as business advisor to technology team for implementation of wholesale and retail credit risk management models and processes.
Support strategic and operational guidance to group’s within and outside of Corporate Risk Management on matters related to credit risk analytics, economic capital, regulatory capital, and capital demand processes.
Provide support in responding to Internal/External Auditors and Regulators on matters involving the credit risk analytics infrastructure on current and future deliverables.
Training / Business User Support / Knowledge Transfer (10%)
Provide business user support including responses to inquiries, information, and training support; proactively manage the communications and business support process.
Develop and provide training materials and knowledge transfer to the SAS platform business users.

To deliver on these accountabilities, the incumbent must have the following authorities.
Advising the Senior Management and the Board on the progress of stress testing framework, stress testing infrastructure and the use of stress testing as a risk and business tool.
Information Access: The job has the authority to access and use confidential data as it relates to the Enterprise’s Strategy, Risk Reporting and actual and plan Risk/Financial information. Information is detailed as well as synthesized for reporting to Sr. Management committees and Board (BSCMC, RMC, & RRC, Enterprise Stress Test Steering Committee, BFC CMC, BFC Stress Test Stakeholder Group, BFC RMC, BFC Board).
This job has direct impact on the strategic and business decisions across the enterprise. This role focuses on building effective credit stress testing infrastructure and capabilities BFC, BHB and BMO FG. This may directly impact the amount of capital demand for the enterprise, any regulatory fines, and in the US, the potential limitation of business strategy including limiting the ability to make acquisitions. This role also contributes to BMO Financial Group’s risk management practices, strategic objectives and compliance with North American regulations as it is directly associated with the Stress Testing and its use. Failure to maintain compliance with the regulatory requirements could result in legal and regulatory risk, damages of reputation and/or subject BMO to costs or fines.
It impacts all of Bank’s loan portfolios, over $250 billion as well as risk capital requirements of over $170B in credit risk weighted assets.
It impacts risk types and partners in various groups, including, Risk Groups, all Operating Groups, all Legal entities, Finance Groups, Economics, Financial Strategy Group, Model & Risk Vetting and Basel Group.
Cross Functional Relationships
This role may require coordination and interaction with senior members of key stakeholder groups across multiple jurisdictions, including, but not limited to Risk Groups, Operating Groups, Finance Groups, Economics, Capital Management, Stress Testing Stakeholder Groups, Model & Risk Vetting, T&O, and others in order to ensure that stress test execution meets Senior Management and Regulatory (enterprise and all legal entity including BFC and BHB) Requirements detailed in the pertinent standards and regulations. It also requires the gathering, understanding, production and aggregation of to the stress test impact required to produce the internal reporting and deliverables involving Stress Testing and Scenario Analyses activities, special risk projects and processes changes.
Knowledge & Skills
Some experience with quantitative coding using at least one programming language
Degree in a quantitative financial or S.T.E.M. discipline
Excellent problem solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to executive audiences
Capacity to cope with a high degree of ambiguity and change
Ability to work both independently and as part of cross-functional teams
