The primary function of the Senior Analyst, Accounting & Control is to act as a key player in the monthly and quarterly financial close process for BMO Capital Markets financial results. The Senior Analyst also has responsibility for the analysis, planning and forecasting functions and various processes relating to the Insight cost allocation methodologies within BMO Capital Markets (“CM”) Other, which includes the Research, Economics, US Support, and other areas within Capital Markets.
Month & Quarter End
Prepare estimates and analyze variances to facilitate the sign-off on monthly BMO CM Other financial results
Facilitates the BMO CM quarterly Supplementary Package review process
Prepares journal entries in BMO Financial Group financial systems (Jade, Insight, CODA, FC and MRP)
Manages the completion of the BMO CM quarterly reserve continuity schedule and quarterly summary of uncorrected misstatements schedule for communication to the Chief Accountants Group and inclusion in Audit Committee and/or external auditor presentations
Reviews accounting implications and treatments for new transactions impacting CM Other results
Assists in the review/performance of journal entries, reconciliations, and other analysis performed within the team
Planning and Forecasting
Assists in the review of the annual plan, forecasts for BMO CM Other and CM Finance through liaison with the various support units
Prepares weekly estimates of BMO CM Other expected results
Performs variance analysis of BMO CM Other results to prior year, plan, linked period, forecast, and estimated results
Develops and maintains analysis reports for the various support units within BMO CM Other and CM Finance
Manage record retention for CM Other to ensure documents are properly stored and adhere to SOX requirements
Perform BPC testing for alternative site simulation
Cost Allocation and Analysis
Serves as a key contact for Insight cost allocation methodology changes and queries
Assists in the review and update of cost studies and other allocation methodologies
Extracts and prepares ad hoc analysis as required through BMO Financial Group financial systems (e.g. Essbase, Progress, EPM, Hyperion and MRP)
Prepares or reviews TSAs impacting CM Other
Reviews processes to improve reporting capabilities
Coordinates special projects as necessary, such as the restatement of financial results, accounting treatment changes and process improvement initiatives
Participates in special projects as required
Provides support to internal and external auditors as required
One or more of B. Commerce, CFA, MBA, CPA or other accounting designation
4-6 years of experience, preferably with BMO Financial Group or another financial institution
Critical Reasoning – understands results and variances
Expert Excel skills a requirement
Expert knowledge of financial concepts, analysis and financial modeling
Knowledge of Bank Financial system hierarchies in terms of transits, GL, detail term codes and business unit structure / organizational hierarchy is an asset
Self-motivated and able to meet tight deadlines with conflicting priorities
Experience with using CODA, Hyperion, EPM, and Essbase systems is an asset
Excellent interpersonal skills required for relationship management
