Technical Producer--Event Sales At BlackOak Technical Productions

Location: Chicago, Illinois

Job Description

Position Overview

The Technical Producer designs, contracts, and produces all categories (corporate, social, gala, etc.) of events for BlackOak Technical Productions, a division of Kehoe Designs. This position develops custom lighting, audio, video and staging designs through a collaborative relationship with the clients, venues, internal producers, and production departments. This position may cross sell/refer all brands to clients including: Kehoe Designs Décor, The Geraghty, Floral Exhibits and BlackOak Technical Productions.

Essential Duties

  • Meets with clients to develop event technology design themes and styles and secure event business.
  • Collaborates with Creative Services and Event Designers to develop technology themes and designs.
  • Writes and negotiates profitable proposals and sales presentations within accordance of company guidelines.
  • Secures client commitment with regard to down payment, signed contracts, and future payments according to department standards.
  • Suggests enhancements to event components and gains client approval for production concepts.
  • Has the opportunity to seek out and target new customers and sales opportunities to secure new business.
  • Successfully develops, maintains, manages and improves business relationships with new and existing clients.
  • Meets and exceeds target sales volume each year, and if applicable, new business sales goals each year.
  • May cross sell/refer all brands to clients including: Kehoe Designs Décor, BlackOak Technical Productions, The Geraghty and Entertainment.
  • Creates sales projections and sales development plans and tools.
  • May act as key Client Lead as requested when projects involve more than two lines of cross brand business: Kehoe
  • Designs Décor, BlackOak Technical Productions, and The Geraghty. The Lead will act as the key contact for clients and project manager for all internal teams.
  • Acts as a liaison and process expert with clients to answer questions, make adjustments to contracts and event specifications and ensure clients are satisfied with the sales and execution processes.
  • Creates production schedules and run-of-show for large events in partnership with the client.
  • Meets with clients, vendors, venues, and subcontractors as the primary representative of the company. Builds relationships with venues, caterers, consultants, and company clients and to ensure high levels of vendor and client satisfaction.
  • Maintains regular contact with current clients to secure future business by scheduling appointments, sales presentations and proposal opportunities.
  • Projects the image that company wants to convey to the marketplace.
  • Collaborates with the producing team, Technical Liaison and project coordinators to ensure the event is produced and executed according to the contract and client expectations.
  • Develops event styles using new and existing technology. Participates in brainstorming sessions with designers, creative team, and clients to create new theme/design ideas.
  • Manages event components and pre-event process to ensure event is designed, coordinated, and executed successfully, including: holding meetings with key production players and with clients and venues, both in house and on site.
  • Attends events as expected, needed, and directed at the discretion of management to ensure clients are satisfied and event is executed successfully and according to contract.
  • Understands technical components, how technical disciplines relate to each other, and how the technical elements relate to the décor and design portion of the project.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve sales processes, decrease turnaround times, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality, seamless event production and design.
  • Maintains inquiry, project, and client lists in CRM and project software to create and submit reports.
  • Maintains cooperative working relationships with sales and productions team and all departments.

    Qualifications

  • 2-3 years’ sales and event production experience (particularly in a creative or event technology industry).
  • Excellent customer service skills including tact and diplomacy.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in either theater design and production or business preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Technical Production including lighting, audio, video, and staging.
  • Ability to develop, read, calculate, and interpret contracts, pricing, and financial reports.
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency required, particularly in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Outstanding interpersonal communications and conflict management skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Works well under pressure with a proven ability to multitask, work in a fast-paced setting, meet deadlines and goals, and effectively deal with competing demands.
  • Excellent attention to detail, highly organized, and outstanding follow-up skills.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Knowledge of event planning software a plus.
