Sr. Performance Support Specialist

As the Sr. Performance Support Specialist you will be responsible for supporting our Performance Product Stream for the Best Buy e-commerce website. This support will include deployments, setting up data, troubleshooting environment issues, real time monitoring during tests, gathering data for post-test analysis and helping to resolve performance bottlenecks. While on the team, you may be asked to perform other duties to assist our Performance team including scripting, running tests, and creating reports for stakeholders.

Part of this role will be working alongside Developers within their agile product teams to provide them with deeper insight into performance defects. Furthermore, you will be expected to work with Product Owners to help prioritize performance defects. To be successful you will require an understanding of functional processes within e-commerce.

What You Will Do:

Performance Support

  • Own the deployments, configurations, and support of new and existing production applications within our e-commerce performance environments
  • Lead and support all performance test activities, especially the monitoring of all applications
  • Lead the troubleshooting of application specific performance issues
  • Pro-actively identify bottlenecks, while recommending and implementing solutions to fix these issues as required
  • Drive automation of current manual processes to improve the efficiency of the Performance Stream with a focus on DevOps principles
  • Lead discussions on the design of applications regarding scalability and performance for new and existing products
  • Provide knowledge of performance testing to internal and 3rd party support teams and lead initiatives to rectify any performance issues across all applications
  • Available to work weekdays, some nights and holidays as required by the Performance stream

Production Support and Monitoring

  • Lead preparation activities for all big sale events, including Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Boxing Day
  • Continually review and improve our Production monitoring and support tools to ensure that teams have the data they need to make accurate real time decisions
  • Involved in the design of new applications to provide input of any performance monitoring requirements
  • Provide cross-training for other members of the application team to ensure all members are aware of any performance defects

What You've Done:

  • 5-8+ years professional work experience in the operations and support of web application or server administration
  • 3+ years' experience in troubleshooting performance issues and tweaking application configurations to obtain optimal application performance
  • 5-8+ years’ experience with Microsoft Windows Server and Enterprise Linux Platforms
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline

Bonus Points:

  • 3+ years experience supporting and/or developing Java/C# websites and applications (Nice to have)
  • 3+ years experience supporting critical applications requiring 24x7 uptime
  • A certificate in ITIL v3 foundation, MCSA, MCSE, RHCSA OR RHCE an asset
