Electrical Designer At Bantrel

Summary

Hatch and Bantrel have formed the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute engineering and construction on the Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. After successfully completing the Definition Phase Study for the project, the HBJV is currently carrying out the Detailed Engineering Phase for the Processing, Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI) and Mining Areas of the 4.5 Mtpa Stage 1 Potash Mine. With a published TIC of US $5.3-5.7 Billion this will represent one of the largest projects and private investments in Canada. The HBJV will use a hybrid of best-in-class new developing technologies and systems as well as the proven HBJV suite of tools to execute this exciting project.

The HBJV has an exciting opportunity for Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Electrical Designers responsible to produce electrical models and drawings in accordance with the project requirements under the supervision of the Area Lead Electrical Engineer and Electrical Design Coordinator. This position will be based out of Calgary, Alberta.

  • Please note this position is not eligible for a relocation subsidy or living out allowance.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Preparing electrical deliverables in an integrated SmartPlant environment.
  • Developing single line diagrams and motor schematics in SPEL.
  • Development and checking of 3D models in SP3D. This includes equipment layouts, cable raceway routing, lighting and grounding.
  • Preparing electrical lists and schedules in SPEL.
  • Checking electrical deliverables and designs in accordance with established quality procedures.
  • Coordinate electrical development activities with other disciplines as required.
  • Performing electrical calculations for lighting design, heat tracing, cable and raceway sizing and selection, etc.
  • Developing material takeoffs from the SmartPlant tools.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Technical College Graduate from an Electrical Engineering Program.
  • Proficient in the use of SPEL.
  • Proficient in the use of SP3D.
  • At least 3 years' experience in an EPC environment.
  • Good knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, including the Canadian Electrical Code.
  • Good safety awareness.
  • Dedicated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of electrical systems designs for industrial facilities and/or underground mines would be considered as an asset.
  • Experience in the Potash Industry would be an asset but not an absolute requirement.
