Supervisor, Security Operations At Bank of Canada

The mandate of Security Operations is to safeguard the Bank’s assets (personnel, information, valuables and property) and to provide a safe and secure work environment.

About the position
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Security Operations, you provide supervision to a small group of armed security officers at the Toronto Agency Operations Centre (TAOC), ensuring the safety and security of the Bank of Canada premises, employees, visitors, information and assets.

You manage all security equipment, systems and weapons, organize and schedule training for security officers and liaise with and assist any law enforcement or fire department agencies, as required.

Your future responsibilities
As a direct people leader, you provide managerial direction to the team and contribute to the leadership of the department. You are responsible for performance management, coaching and developing team members, and motivating the security team to improve operational standards. You also ensure that employees are positioned effectively to optimize their contribution and you create a healthy work environment.

You provide support to the Senior Manager in various improvement initiatives, support business plans for Security Operations, including contingency plans for emergency situations. You research security operational policies, methods and practices in use in the public and private sectors and recommend changes to Bank processes when necessary.

In addition, you administer the firearms program and coordinate mandatory and elective training for security officers in collaboration with the Security Operations Training Analyst.

Your education and experience

  • post-secondary certificate or diploma in security management or police foundations
  • a minimum of five years of progressively responsible and relevant security experience in the military, police, government or private security service
  • a minimum of three years full-time supervisory experience in the security field


  • an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered


  • Certified Physical Security Professional certification
  • Certified Crisis Management Professional certification
  • post-secondary degree or diploma in criminology, law, psychology, sociology or in a relevant field

Your knowledge and skills
We are looking for someone with well-developed leadership skills who exercises sound judgement, is fair, consistent and impartial when managing security staff. You coach and collaborate with others to achieve common goals. Your relationship management skills allow you to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients and staff, while liaising with employees at all levels.

You have experience with all facets of a physical, personnel and information security program and continuous operations. You handle stress effectively in emergency situations and have knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada (particularly sections pertaining to the use of force and the powers of arrest).

Language requirement
English and French essential (bilingual) with a minimum starting level of functional (level 4) in second official language. Training may be provided to help reach the required level of fully functional (level 5) in second official language.

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $82,900 to $102,400 (job grade 16)
  • Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (5 to 7% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (10% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
