About the position
The Information Technology Services (ITS) Department delivers a secure, reliable, best-in-class technical environment providing systems that enable the Bank to carry out its core functions and facilitate billions of dollars worth of daily electronic financial transactions. While ITS operations are primarily based in Ottawa, the Bank is in the process of establishing a new alternate site for its operations in Calgary, in accordance with resilience best practices. ITS is currently seeking an Intermediate Database Administrator and a Senior Database Administrator for the Data Management and Middleware Services team for its Calgary site. This position will require initial training in Ottawa for a period of up to 6 months, with periodic travel between the two sites. Relocation and travel will be provided in accordance with the Bank s travel and relocation policies.

Reporting to the Assistant Director, you focus on overall administration of database environments and database management system (DBMS) software infrastructure to support live production applications. You ensure a smooth transition from development to production of all related ongoing operational requirements.

Your future responsibilities
install, configure, patch, upgrade and maintain all supported DBMS software (Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL Server) for an HA (High Availability) environment
monitor all databases with monitoring tools such as EMGrid or SCOM. Configure monitor criteria and notification
lead resolution of database-related technical issues (for example, database recovery in the event of a system failure)
implement and review backup and recovery strategy to ensure that business service-level agreements are met
conduct database security administration (to ensure that data are available only to authorized users)
work with data modelers to build database schema, tables, procedures and permissions
collaborate with development DBAs to coordinate database migration activities and disaster recovery testing, and enhance disaster recovery procedures
provide on-call support on a rotational basis

Your education and experience

Senior Database Administrator: bachelor s degree or three-year college diploma in computer science or a relevant field and a minimum of 5 years of experience within the last 7 years, as a Database Administrator for Oracle version 11g or higher and SQL Server 2008 or higher

Intermediate Database Administrator: bachelor s degree or three-year college diploma in computer science or a relevant field and a minimum of 3 years of experience within the last 5 years, as a Database Administrator for Oracle version 11g or higher and SQL Server 2008 or higher

or

an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

Assets
Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) designation
MS Certified Solutions Associate
knowledge of Oracle Exadata, RAC or GoldenGate

Your knowledge and skills
You are a business professional who is analytical, dedicated and an innovative team player. You have experience creating and editing stored procedures and knowledge of LEAN and AGILE development methodologies. You can work on call and/or overtime, work on multiple concurrent projects, support high-visibility applications and work under stressful conditions. You can also organize your workload to accommodate changing priorities while still meeting deadlines, maintain a high level of accuracy and ensure proper follow-through.

Senior Database Administrator
Starting salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $84,968 to $104,960 (job grade 17).
Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (7 to 10% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (15% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.

Intermediate Database Administrator
Starting salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $79,887 to $93,201 (job grade 16).
Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (5 to 7% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (10% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
