Business Analyst At Bank of Canada

You will join a team that is part of the extended Financial Markets and Banking Operations portfolio, that brings together employees from the Financial Markets Department (FMD), Information Technology Services (ITS) and Funds Management and Banking Department (FBD), all working together towards delivering meaningful enhancements to the business users. Using the Agile development method, you will work in a dynamic environment with ongoing changes and innovation.

About the position
Under the general direction of the Senior Manager, Business Delivery Services in the Financial Markets Department, you provide strategic, analytic and project support to the market applications solutions. You review and analyze options for improving business solution capabilities to meet the evolving needs of the Bank. Using your business analysis skills to understand requirements, and in accordance with Scrum development methodology, you work closely with all business lines to ensure that the end-state solution is truly in line with Bank expectations. You also work collaboratively within a team of other experts in the field.


Your future responsibilities
You will be part of a team that is responsible for delivering support and enhancements requests to the Business users. Your main responsibilities will be to gather and manage user requirements and providing 2nd level support for the Department’s applications. You apply analytic processes and techniques to ensure the needs of the Business are clearly identified, documented and addressed so that improvements to their tools are completed and their tools are supported. You will be investigating trends and irregularities to identify causes and recommend changes to processes or systems to enhance service delivery and/or minimize operational risk. As an active member of a Scrum team, you will participate in the creation of acceptance testing plans and end-user training. You will also be providing guidance and training and will participate in, and occasionally lead, department-wide or external functional projects.


Your education and experience

  • a completed undergraduate degree (preferably in information technology, finance or business) with a minimum of six years of relevant work experience in business analysis activities as outlined in the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge (BABOK).

or

  • an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered


Assets

  • Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or Certification of Capability in Business Analysis (CCBA)
  • practical experience using an Agile development methodology
  • experience working with the standard and specialized systems used in FMD
  • experience working in a financial environment


Your knowledge and skills
You are an innovative problem solver with experience in applying business analysis techniques and structured system analysis techniques in converting business requirements into functional specifications. You also possess experience in planning and deploying information technology (IT) and/or business initiatives as well as in troubleshooting and applying root cause analysis. You have knowledge of business analysis principles and best practices and can quickly understand the business and contribute to solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals. You can conduct needs assessments and gather and identify business requirements. You have great coaching and leadership skills and are committed to continuous learning in the business analysis field. Teamwork is a priority for you and you are constantly looking for ways to help the team achieve their goals. You will also collaborate with developers and quality assurance analysts to deliver requirements to business users as part of an Agile development process.


Language requirement
English and French essential (bilingual) with a minimum starting level of functional (level 4) in second official language. Training may be provided to help reach the required level of fully functional (level 5) in second official language.

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $79,900 to $93,200 (job grade 16)
  • Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay for successfully meeting (5 to 7% of your base salary) or for exceeding expectations (10% of your base salary). Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
