Role Description:
As part of the Human Resources team at AstraZeneca, you will thrive in a fast-paced, creative and purposeful environment where bold, innovative thinking builds our platform for success. Reporting to the VP Human Resources and Communications, the Director, Human Resources is will be a highly influential and impactful contributor to the organization, delivering strategic and tactical HR outcomes in support of our business strategy. You will provide strategic direction and leadership on various HR initiatives including workforce planning, talent, learning & development and operational excellence. You will play a critical leadership role within the HR & Communications Function, inspiring a high performing team of 3-4 direct reports, working together to deliver key change programs and building forward-thinking strategies that empower current and future business acceleration.

You will lead a portfolio of strategic projects and processes that support the business and you will empower your team to provide strategic advice and partnership in key areas of Human Resources including: HR Operations Recruiting, Compensation, Talent Management, Workforce Planning, Reward & Recognition, Learning & Development, Inclusion & Diversity and People Relations.

  • Actively support your overall team to deliver: workforce and succession plans (including talent reviews); driving employee engagement; performance management; compensation; people relations and pull through of all reward processes
  • Positively influence the appropriate application of HR policies, operational processes, standards and procedures ensuring alignment with the organization's vision, mission and core values and adherence to changing legislation
  • Care and instill a strong process mindset into projects and solutions, to deliver exceptional HR Operations and work with Global Partners to troubleshoot enterprise issues and enable optimal solutions for the Canadian business.

  • Be an accomplished facilitator and seasoned Leader who can assess organizational needs (learning, talent, recruitment, compensation) and build impactful and sustainable enterprise strategies and solutions working with both global and local colleagues
  • Maintain a high level of communication with all levels of the organization (both globally and locally) and positively impact the key decisions
  • Support the execution of the overall business plan by building and implementing People Strategies to attract, develop and retain employees; drive competitive advantage; and address opportunities and threats.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and counsel on enterprise organizational design, people plans and people change management strategies
  • Own and deliver the Strategic Workforce Plan by actively collaborating with key business partners to actively plan, identify and develop leaders and employees for future roles; you anticipate and plan for future human capability needs by analyzing and interpreting workforce information, reviewing results of employee surveys, and discussing top of mind issues and concerns with the business and HR leaders

Your qualifications include:
  • Minimum 12 years of diverse Human Resources Leadership experience, with preference in the Pharmaceutical Industry
  • Extraordinary program management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work with Executive team and capable of providing effective guidance and challenge where appropriate
  • CHRP/CHRL designation or Human Resources Specialty would be considered an asset
  • Consultative approach to persuade/influence business leaders to action
  • Critical thinking skills to assess the root cause of complex issues and build sound HR/Business solutions
  • Exceptional communicator and facilitator with positive relationship management skills
  • Ability to attract, build, retain and inspire a best-in-class, high-performing, creative and engaged HR team
