Overview
Anthem offers a full suite of strategic brand development services such as brand positioning and identity, packaging design, creative development, integrated marketing campaigns, digital/social, content development, consumer research, innovation, portfolio strategy, etc.
As a Strategy Director, you will lead the development and delivery of strategically led branding and design solutions, contributing to, and impacting the effectiveness of the holistic agency offering. As a trusted advisor, you apply deep understanding of the client's industry, business, and products in combination with proven strategic methodologies to help your clients’ brands and businesses win in the marketplace.
You will support and lead client engagements and service a roster of Canadian and US based clients, along with a growing list of emerging new business relationships. In addition to contributing to organic account development, you will play a key role in supporting the agency’s new business development efforts, effectively communicating rationale to support strategic investments as part of an integrated and highly effective business approach.

Key Accountabilities
Client Experience
  • A strategic partner to assigned clients by demonstrating a deep understanding of their market and business sectors and their specific challenges and opportunities
  • Develops and maintains mid to senior-level relationships with clients and key agency players, establishing trusted advisor relationships in which clients and colleagues seek out advice and counsel.
  • Provides thought leadership, insights, and perspectives that support client initiatives and align services and solutions with client needs.
  • Maintains strong relationships with client contacts, staying closely connected to internal project teams, monitoring progress of ongoing client projects, as needed, and helping to address and resolve promptly, accurately, effectively, and to the client’s satisfaction, any issues or problems that may arise.

Job Responsibilities
Growth
  • Proactively seeks to grow the business by uncovering and assessing client challenges and translating into opportunities to deliver solutions
  • Participates in, and may lead, the development and delivery of innovative proposals to develop account growth and new business opportunities.
  • Develops and executes targeted “white space” opportunities
  • Supports client retention though best in class service and solution and delivery, meeting and exceeding client expectations
Operational Excellence
  • Develops creative, innovative, and cost-effective design strategy deliverables that meet client needs, utilizing project experience, current market trends, competitor intelligence, and innovative thinking.
  • Proactively leads the development of improved Design Strategy approaches and processes (e.g. design positioning process, validation, and activation, design platform, situational context, insight development & design opportunity, etc.) to better serve clients and achieve financial targets.
  • Partners with strategic leads across the network to cross pollinate best in class practices and partner on global projects as required.
  • Develops high impact strategic approaches for small to large scale projects
  • Manages internal and external project teams to ensure client needs are met and projects are managed to scope, budget, timeline, quality, and meet assigned Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Creates collaborative internal partnerships across the North American and global internal network
  • May own/coordinate full lifecycle for client-specific projects

Qualifications / Requirements
Success Profile
Education & Certifications
  • College or university degree (e.g. Bachelor of Arts) or equivalent degree within appropriate discipline such as Business, Graphic Arts, Marketing, Advertising, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the key accountabilities of the job required.
  • Graduate degree or MBA a plus.
  • Bilingualism is an asset
Experience
  • Proven branding and design strategy experience within an agency environment offering brand development services such as packaging design, branding, strategy, creative, advertising, marketing communications, digital/social, content.
  • Strong background developing strategic solutions for both Canada and the US based CPG brands
  • Experience developing business through contributing to innovative new business pitches and organic account growth
Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively develop and initiate activities that build business, capabilities, talent, and value.
  • Seasoned and experienced across relevant business environments, able to translate clients’ broad business strategy and challenges into strategic opportunities.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the knowledge and ability to apply effective research and insight generating methodologies to client projects.
  • Strong understanding of effective design strategy practices, trends, techniques, and processes across various touch points or mediums applying visual and verbal expression (e.g. packaging, in-store, online, mobile, print, direct).
  • Fluency in consumer, shopper and retail segments and overarching trends impacting client industries and categories.
  • Fluency in design language and the and creative development process.
  • Dynamic personal presence, with the ability to deliver compelling presentations, and recommendations.
  • Ability to moderate or facilitate groups
  • Able to influence decisions at all levels and negotiate win/win outcomes.
  • Strong financial acumen and knowledge of business models, objectives, financial metrics, etc. used in decision- making; ability to build sound business cases to support innovative initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to profitably grow business revenue with new and existing clients.
  • Strong team player and collaborative working style, partnering effectively with colleagues and external stakeholders at all levels and functions.
  • Ability to build and nurture relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Limited travel is expected, however candidate must have the ability to travel to client locations in Canada and the US as the needs of the business dictate.
