CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Overview
Anthem offers a full suite of strategic brand development services including brand positioning and identity, packaging design, creative development, integrated marketing campaigns, digital/social, content development, consumer research, innovation, portfolio strategy, etc.
As a Creative Director, you will lead the development and delivery of strategically led branding and design solutions, contributing to, and impacting the effectiveness of the holistic agency offering. As a trusted advisor, you apply deep understanding of the client's industry, business, and products in combination with proven strategic design methodologies to help your clients’ brands and businesses win in the marketplace.
You will lead creative engagements and service a roster of Canadian and US based clients, along with a growing list of emerging new business relationships. In addition to contributing to organic account development though innovative creative recommendations, you will play a key role in supporting the agency’s new business development efforts, by supporting the development of creative strategies and winning pitches.
Key Accountabilities
Client Experience

  • A strategic partner to assigned clients by demonstrating a deep understanding of their market and business sectors and their specific challenges and opportunities
  • Develops and maintains mid to senior-level relationships with clients and key agency players, establishing trusted advisor relationships in which clients and colleagues seek out advice and counsel.
  • Provides thought leadership, insights, and perspectives that support client initiatives and align services and solutions with client needs.
  • Maintains strong relationships with client contacts, staying closely connected to internal project teams, monitoring progress of ongoing client projects, as needed, and helping to address and resolve promptly, accurately, effectively, and to the client’s satisfaction, any issues or problems that may arise.

  • Proactively seeks to grow the business by uncovering and assessing client challenges and translating into opportunities to deliver solutions
  • Participates in the development and delivery of innovative proposals to develop account growth and new business opportunities.
  • Supports client retention though best in class creative, service, and delivery, meeting and exceeding client expectations
Operational Excellence
  • Develops creative, innovative, and cost-effective design strategy deliverables that meet client needs, utilizing project experience, current market trends, competitor intelligence, and innovative thinking.
  • Proactively leads the development of improved design strategy approaches and processes (e.g. design positioning process, validation, and activation, design platform, situational context, insight development & design opportunity, etc.) to better serve clients and achieve financial targets.
  • Partners with strategic creative leads across the network to cross pollinate best in class practices and partner on global projects as required.
  • Develops high impact strategic approaches for small to large scale projects
  • Manages internal and external project teams to ensure client needs are met and projects are managed to scope, budget, timeline, quality, and meet assigned Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Creates collaborative internal partnerships across the North American and global internal network

Qualifications / Requirements

Success Profile
Education & Certifications

  • College or university degree (e.g. Bachelor of Arts) or equivalent degree within appropriate discipline such as Business, Graphic Arts, Marketing, Advertising, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the key accountabilities of the job required.
Experience
  • Proven strategic branding and design experience within an agency environment offering brand development services such as packaging design, branding, strategy, creative, advertising, marketing communications, digital/social, content.
  • Strong background developing strategic solutions for both Canada and the US based CPG brands
Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to lead, inspire, grow and develop a dynamic and talented creative team.
  • Ability to identify and attract talented individuals to enhance the team as business needs dictate.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively develop and initiate activities that build business, capabilities, talent, and value.
  • Seasoned and experienced across relevant business environments, able to translate clients’ broad business strategy and brand challenges into creative brand solutions
  • Excellent analytical skills with the knowledge and ability to apply effective creative methodologies to client projects.
  • Strong understanding of effective design strategy practices, trends, techniques, and processes across various touch points or mediums applying visual and verbal expression (e.g. packaging, in-store, online, mobile, print, direct).
  • Fluency in consumer, shopper and retail segments and overarching trends impacting client industries and categories.
  • Fluency in design language and the and creative development process.
  • Dynamic personal presence, with the ability to deliver compelling presentations.
  • Strong financial acumen and knowledge of business models, objectives, financial metrics, etc. used in decision- making; ability to build sound business cases to support innovative initiatives.
  • Strong team player and collaborative working style, partnering effectively with colleagues and external stakeholders at all levels and functions.
  • Ability to build and nurture relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Adaptable, able to succeed in diverse environments and meet the requirements of various client accounts Excellent organization and project management skills, able to manage workloads and priorities across projects to meet deadlines.

  • Limited travel is expected, however candidate must have the ability to travel to client locations in Canada and the US as the needs of the business dictate.
