Marketing Communication Specialist At American Academy of Ophthalmology

Location: San Francisco, California

Job Description

The Academy's Marketing team plays an important role in furthering the Academy’s mission by developing and marketing products, services and events that help ophthalmologists learn new techniques, run their businesses more effectively, and educate their patients about a variety of conditions and procedures.

As Marketing Communication Specialist, you’ll partner with the Product Marketing Manager in all aspects of planning and execution of the Academy's product marketing strategy for several important groups: Education, Museum of Vision and the Foundation. You’ll be responsible for developing and executing the tactical marketing communications plans and working within an expense budget.

You will:

  • Promote Academy products and services
o Create and maintain a tactical plan that supports achievement of strategic and revenue goals
o Develop, schedule and execute all promotional campaigns: direct mail, advertising, web marketing, email blasts, and social media
o Provide art direction and copywriting for promotions
o Oversee design, approval, production and mailing of promotions with internal staff and external vendors
o Increase use and awareness of Academy services, like the ONE Network and the Academy’s family of scientific journals
o Achieve donation goals for the Foundation
o Work within a promotional expense budget and recommend cost-saving measures
o Analyze results of promotions and apply findings to subsequent promotions
  • Assist in the research, development and launch of new products
o Work with Product Marketing Manager to evaluate, recommend, and prioritize new product concepts to achieve maximum revenue growth
o Work with Product Marketing Manager to identify product improvements, enhancements, and opportunities
o Assist in creation of new product requirements and specifications to meet market needs
o Develop and maintain product pages in the online store
o Monitor and track product sales to assist in evaluation of product revenue performance and inventory
o Conduct quantitative analysis of business performance and competitive research
  • Manage relationships with domestic and international distribution partners (third-parties who sell Academy products)
  • Serve as lead marketing contact on other projects as assigned

You have:

  • 5 years marketing experience or other related business experience
  • Experience developing collateral, advertising, direct mail, online promotion, social media and print production
  • Experience with promotional development, strategy, and execution as well as copywriting, editing and art direction
  • Project management experience managing and developing budgets and managing databases
  • Prior experience in business analysis and reporting
  • Strong understanding of market research principles and practices with the ability to communicate effectively and reliably
  • Strong writing, grammar and proofreading skills
  • Have critical thinking skills and ability to analyze data and develop sound, clear recommendations
  • Proven ability to perform duties independently, making decisions about project prioritization by analyzing urgency and importance of competing projects
  • Prior experience negotiating pricing while managing vendor relationships
  • Strong computer skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience with HTML, Adobe Acrobat DC, Photoshop, InDesign and/or Illustrator a plus
  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, or equivalent in related field
