Global Product Designer, Racquet Sports At Amer Sports Company

]What You'll Do:
We are currently seeking a Global Product Designer who is responsible for creating “objects of desire” at the intersection of Sport, Culture, and Technology in ownable design solutions that convey compelling and consistent visual design language and support the overall brand personality and position of Wilson Racquet Sports’ hardgoods category. This role is involved in creating innovative product experiences tied to deep consumer insights that align with business strategy, technical feasibility and consumer desire. This person will work closely with Design Management and other designers, CAD specialists, engineers and product team leads to develop holistic design solutions with focus on the front-end of the innovation process as well as dedicated responsibility to follow key designs through the product creation process. This is a hands-on position, having emphasis on design work for our premium Performance Tennis Racquet category. There is an intense emphasis on 2D and 3D design skills/tool usage including best in class illustrations, renderings, and diagrams to effectively tell stories, convey intent and specify final design expectations to engineering and manufacturing partners.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Support front-end ‘design-led’ innovation projects representing essential Industrial Design functions.
  • Craft compelling design stories to ensure product value propositions are effectively communicated inside and outside the product engine process.
  • Contribute to the visual design language for Wilson Racquet sports hardgoods.
  • Develop tech packs and communicate product concepts within the company to manufacturers by:
    • Developing 2D and 3D rendered graphics.
    • Creating logos, color ways, finishes and cosmetic elements of the racquet.
  • Create inspiration/trend/color boards for new line development.
  • Research, analyze and monitor competitive products, industry trends and external consumer product trends to capitalize on market opportunities.
  • Ensure execution of product design is aligned to consumer visual identity and fits within our business objectives for the product range.
  • Build critical relationships and leverage expertise and capabilities from inside and outside Wilson to deliver results and create value.

What We're Looking For :
This role requires a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design (minor in graphic design is a plus) and a minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial design or product/creative design of consumer products, preferably sporting goods.

Other qualifications include:
  • Ability to quickly synthesize current market, fashion, material and performance trends into design strategy and solutions
  • Strong sense of color, material and finish technologies, application and approaches
  • Experience in producing design spec packs and technical drawings
  • 2D - Strong hand sketching (digital) and rendering skills with ability to create designs quickly, working in and out of software tools such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • 3D - Strong proficiency with 3D CAD software including advanced surfacing techniques (Keyshot, SolidWorks, Rhino, etc.)
  • Ability to synthesize design-inspired consumer insights through connections with athletes
  • Experience managing individual projects for recognizable brands and leading teams
  • Experience working across a variety of mediums in the design and production of branding, products, and packaging
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to travel 10% domestically and internationally
  • Demonstrated passion for tennis and racquet sports
