Software Developer Engineer, Ads Eligibility At Amazon.com Services, Inc.

Location: New York, New York

Job Description

  • 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
  • 1+ years of experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.

When done correctly, advertising allows customers to discover new products they love and brands to find new customers. It's a win for our customers, a win for our advertisers and a win for Amazon. Amazon is investing heavily in building a world class advertising business and we are responsible for defining and delivering a collection of self-service performance advertising products that drive discovery and sales.

Are you excited about solving complex technical problems that result in measurably better experiences for customers? Are you intrigued by figuring out how to scale things that seem impossible to scale? Do you enjoy leveraging your deep knowledge of computer science to build better software that people will use every day? This is the team for you!

The Ads Eligibility initiative is a new program focused on ensuring that our advertisers get consistent and actionable feedback about the ad serving rules and decisions that are being made by Amazon. We combine many different data sources and consume the event stream emitted by the various ad servers into a coherent narrative around the life cycle of an ad. Simultaneously, we provide a rules engine for internal users to write rules around what ads can and cannot be served; and ensure those rules are enforced. We face some very interesting technical challenges - not only do we process an enormous amount of data, we also have arbitrarily complex rules to enforce; all with tight latency and availability constraints.

  • Passion for building new products in a fast paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Solid coding practices including good design documentation, unit testing, peer code reviews, and a preference for agile processes and working methodology.
  • Sharp analytical abilities, proven design skills, excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience using Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Unix environments (i.e. Redhat, Ubuntu, Darwin, etc)
  • Developed in an Agile (SCRUM, Kanban) environment
  • Strong sense of ownership, bias for action, urgency, and drive.
  • Demonstrable mentoring and teaching experience with junior developers
