Would you like to lead a team focused on increasing adoption of Amazon Web Services within the Canadian market? Do you have the business savvy and the technical background necessary to help establish Amazon as a key technology platform provider? Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for experienced and motivated technical managers to lead, coach, grow, and partner with technically skilled, customer-facing Solution Architects.

You will help develop the industry’s best cloud-based solutions architects team by enabling and coaching them on best practices, solution selling, presentation and speaking skills, as well as how to create and present value-driven architectures of widely varying size and complexity. In collaboration with sales, you will drive revenue growth across a broad set of customers. Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Manage a Canada-wide team of Specialist Solutions Architects who work with AWS customers to convey cloud computing best practices, and build reference architectures in the compute, security, databases, storage, enterprise applications, developer technologies areas and industry solutions.
  • Develop long-term strategic relationships with key accounts.
  • Develop the team to be well-positioned to establish technical credibility in sales cycles, so that they can stand toe to toe with any and all CTOs, CIOs, Chief Architects, Senior Developers, etc.
  • Develops plans for thought leadership in each domain, and manages the team regularly speaking at industry events, conferences, symposiums, etc.
  • Hire, on-board, train, and develop new Solution Architects from internal and external sources.
  • Build and coach the team on the skills needed to conduct one-to-few and one-to-many training sessions so they can transfer deep technical skills to customers who are considering or using AWS.
  • Guide and motivate the development of whitepapers, data sheets, and other high-value customer facing guidance and best practices.
  • This is a National role; expect moderate travel.
  • Act as a conduit and liaison between customers, service engineering teams and support.
  • Position based in Toronto, Calgary, or Montreal.

Basic Qualifications

  • Management/team leadership experience.
  • BA/BS in Computer Science or related degree.
  • 10+ years of technology related presales, technology consulting, or business development experience.
  • 5+ years design/implementation/consulting experience of distributed applications.
  • 5+ years in infrastructure architecture, database architecture, application development, and networking experience.
  • Working knowledge of software development tools and methodologies.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience successfully building and executing technical strategies.
  • High level of comfort communicating effectively across internal and external organizations.
  • Experience working within software development or Internet-related industries.
  • History of successful technical consulting and/or architecture engagements with large-scale customers or enterprises.
  • Technical knowledge of enterprise IT is required, including: database systems, tiered storage architectures, server and desktop virtualization, data center operations, network security, etc. with ability to go deep on technical aspects to understand current and future customer needs and present AWS technical benefits.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Professional experience architecting/operating solutions built on AWS or other cloud platforms.
