Job Description

The Senior Provincial Director (SPD) maintains the following key relationships to lead this complex portfolio: cooperating with the Chief Program Officer, Strategic Clinical Networks (System Innovations and Programs); collaborating with Senior Medical Directors (Quality & Chief Medical Officer Portfolio). The SPD will provide strategic leadership, advice and expertise to the PPIH SCN in partnership with the SCN Senior Medical Directors (SMD), in the context of the AHS Dyad Leadership model. Together with the SMDs the SPD will establish the priorities for the unique populations served by each arm of the SCN (Indigenous Health, Population and Public Health) and with the Scientific Director (SD), who will be accountable for developing the research strategy for the SCN. Leading through a collaborative model, each arm of the SCN aims to facilitate a seamless approach with teams ranging from population, public & Indigenous health to primary, specialty, acute and community care initiatives that will make health and patient care a priority in Alberta. The SPD will support evidence-informed improvements in population, public and Indigenous health through a team-delivered prevention and customized clinical performance to achieve the highest quality and best outcomes endorsing cost efficiency throughout. Key areas of accountabilities include motivational, innovative leadership to the SCN’s in the design, development, implementation and continuous improvement of strategies in alignment with AHS business plans. Building strategic alliances through coalitions with internal and external partners. The SPD will also provide administrative leadership and oversight to the SCN Leadership committee. The role will foster a commitment to operational excellence and enhanced performance through large scale integration and agile change management processes.

Required Qualifications:

A Master’s degree in Health Care Management, Public Health, Business Administration, or a related health care field. Progressive senior leadership experience in a healthcare environment. Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior leadership role in clinical services or health system operations. Experience with assessing population health needs, applying population health concepts and setting priorities. A demonstrated ability to work with Clinical experts including those with expertise in population health, Indigenous. Health and public health to develop and implement care models, approaches and pathways. Successful record of achievement as a leader, including extensive senior leadership experience across a large and diverse range of functions. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Proven ability to foster partnerships to achieve organizational goals within a large, diverse organization, serving diverse populations and managing within a unionized sector. Ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst, and build solid relationships with public agencies, government, boards, committees and other partners.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Financial and analytic acumen, able to interpret information to determine priorities and performance analysis. Demonstrated ability to undertake evidence informed/data driven decision making to support adoption of evidence informed practice, knowledge transformation and a culture of continuous innovation. Experience and expertise in performance management and quality assurance processes. Knowledge and expertise in value management at a strategic level. Demonstrated ability to successfully implement change management and complex program management. Strong public speaking and presentation abilities using multiple media and forms of engagement. Expertise in creating and aligning accountability and incentive systems. A proven commitment to patient/public centred health care system.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in Project Management systems and approaches. Experience working with Indigenous Populations. Demonstrated change leadership, change management ability. Experience in establishing and working in public, private and third sector collaborations.
