Ethics Commissioner At Accreditation Canada

Location: Ottawa, Ontario

Job Description

Health Standards Organization (HSO) is searching for a part-time Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner to support HSO’s standard development activities, within HSO Global Programs. The Ethics Commissioner ensures continuous improvement and monitoring of procedures for the prevention of conflicts of interest and to establish a strong ethical framework. The Commissioner not only helps ensure that the established rules are fully and consistently implemented, they will also provide support in the case of complex decision-making.

The Ethics Commissioner will report to the President, Global Programs but will work very closely with the Director, Standards. Let’s break it down. Your responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with HSO Program Managers to provide direction on conflict of interest and ethical matters as it relates to health and social services which is an essential element in the development of HSO standards.
  • Using your detective like skills you will conduct efficient, fair and confidential reviews into complaints arising from the work of our technical committees, standards publications or public reviews.
  • You have the ability to analyze differing opinions and complex situations with a view to taking sound decisions that are reasonable and fair. With your ethics-based hat on, you will make recommendations to HSO staff and/or leadership when necessary.
  • With your forward-thinking mindset, you will always be on the look-out for emerging trends in health and social services ethics which could impact current and future standards
  • Provide adhoc consultation as needed

You have a unique history. Does it include the education and experience listed below?

  • A degree from a recognized university in a relevant field of study such as law, bio-ethics or public administration
  • Bilingualism is an asset. Excellent English communication is required.
  • Comprehensive experience with ethics in health and social services
  • Experience in communicating and consulting at a senior level with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Leadership acumen
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills. This is key. You’ll be interacting with technical committee chairs, staff and executives.
